installing tweeters....

Has anyone been able to install aftermarket speakers in the stock area in the I30/Maxima? I'm trying to figure out how to remove the piece to attempt to install some new tweeters. Also, are tweeters tweeters? I see a variety of prices, I just want volume and clarity....

Some poeple in the 5th gen forum put in polk audio tweeter and they fit. At the top of the pillar, you could use you'r fingers (or get a slotted screw driver + towel) and pry the pillar outwords. You need to pull hard so it comes off. And then you'll se the twetters. Then just pop it back on.

I have them on the black panel on the inside of the side-view mirror. Easy to remove.

Isn't that panel facing more towards the windshield? It's not perfectly square and doesn't seem to be facing the driver. You would have to mount the tweeter on an angle.

Same thing for me in another post. Should I donate my $21 now or later to the server?

I don't think that panel is facing the windshield too much. In fact if I were to disconnect the tweets... the difference is huge. I think its a much better spot than where the 6.5s are. BTW I have a 2k max.

What did you use to drill the hole in the plastic with? To mount on an angle it's not even a full circle.

Unless you get monster sized tweaters, they'll fit.

Down, to the cross-overs in the kick panel. If you remove the glove box, you can see straight up to the tweeter. That pic was obviously taken before I actually hooked them up; the leads are just hanging out.

What about routing the wire for the mids? Through the door to the kick panel?

Here's some pics I took for another org member:
Door Wiring pics
They aren't the clearest, but you get the idea. I bought a really long drill bit for the job, so I could drill out from the inside of the car. Aim to come out right below the existing boot. Don't forget to put a grommet in the hole you drilled.
To get in the door, just punch a hole in the rubber boot.
