Passive Crossovers
Passive Crossovers
Hey,
I blew the amp I was running my mids and highs on and can't afford another one right now so I hooked my speakers up to the headunit but now the bass is starting to affect the speakers. I was wondering if anyone could recomend an inexpensive inline crossover to eliminate this problem and what frequency to get.
Thanks for the help.

Go to radio shack and get an 80 microfarad capacitor and put it inline on the positive speaker lead. Should drop almost all of the bass out of the signal making it to the speakers.
fast and cheap. I used the same thing on a set of 3.5" boston's in my last truck. They ran for 8 years.

not enought to make any difference. They are about the same size as the capacitors used on a lot of factory crossovers.

Although nothing works like active crossovers

Man, I used to do the same thing. We build great crossovers before all the electronics were available. All kinds of crossover points and whatever slope you desired. I may have to dust off the old notebooks and see what I can still build.
