Radar Detectors

Just wanted to get a general idea from those that have radar detectors on what brands are being purchased and how well they are functioning. I just recently purchased an Escort Passport 8500 @ $200+ and it performs great. But basicly I wanted to compare that with others in the $50-$200 range.

I would like some opinions as well on this matter.

The 8500 is one of the best you can buy next to the Valentine V1. Most less than that you'll generally get what you pay for.

I have the Passport 8500 and am very happy with it. The Bel is a bit cheaper, but just about as good (from what I've read). I don't believe there are any detectors under $200 that even come close to these 2. Or the V1, but that's about $399 IIRC.

Stick with the Passport...

The first post said $200+. I paid $269 from Sound Domain...cheapest I found. Yeah, if someone got a new one for less than $250, that's a great deal!!

Just one thought on this thread of Passport 8500 VS. V1. Have you ever actually heard of anyone taking back the V1 for a Passport? I own neither, if any I own the old school cordless Solo by Escort. I have been looking at the V1 for many years now tho.

The 8500 is the best detector on the planet for a windshield mount. I have the SR-1, cuz I live in VA..SHHHHH don't tell anyone...The 8500 is also undetectable, but doesn't hide very well. I think the 8500 tested No. 1 in 19 of 20 mags. The only mag that put it at No. 2 employs the guys who build the Valentine 1. If you have not bought it yet, I know that there is now an SR-7, that replaces my SR-1, and the SR-1 is available for dirt cheap, while supplies last at some Tweeter locations. The SR-1 is under $400 right now...Limited Quantitees...Check it out. The installed detectors are much nicer. Also check out the ZR3 laser shifter. It will interface with any of the other Escort pieces.
