Alpine /Infinity Kappa Perfect doesn't BUMP??
Hello
I just purchased an Alpine MRP-M350 and Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1D in a closed box combo. After setting it up and putting the volume up I was shocked that although it did sound deep, it wasnt hitting hard. Matter of fact the Bazooka EL8A-HP I replaced was hitting harder. After doing some reasearch I thought this was the perfect combo:
Alpine - 350 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
Infinity - recommended power range 75-350 watts RMS (175 watts per coil)
When it didnt sound right I brought the amp back to the store (Uncle something on Canal St in NYC) They suggested that I get a more powerful amp. The Sony XM-D400P5 - 400 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms. After swapping that out I was getting no sound out the sub?
At this point the store is already closed so I am going to have to go back in the morning. Am I crazy or should the first configuration be loud? Do I need to change a setting on my headunit? Alpine CDA-9813
Any suggestions on a better amp or should it be fine?
Thanks

First of all, he stepped you into a Sony and out of an Alpine? The 50 watt difference is irrelevant, the Alpine is def the better of the two. Next...how did you have the sub wired? Third...Its canal street no offense, but thats the biggest chain of grey market/refurb/duplicated/stolen property in the US.

i have 2 12 perfects and they hit damn hard. i just got an xtant amp to replace the audiobahn and wouldn't you know it. it hits even harder now and gain turned way down. imo, stay away from that sony xplod junk. go with a more high end amp, it will cost more but you will have no regrets.

Is seems to hit well, but only at high volume. I also had it put in a ported box and that made a difference too. The sub is wired in parallel. And the amp has a 10 gauge wire to amp and 12 gauge to body panel. I am going to return the Sony and get the Alpine back. I should have stuck with my gut when first making the purchase. L
I don’t really know about subs, so sorry if this is a silly question, but is it possible that the sub could be bad (again it does hit at HIGH volumes) or is it more likely that the amp is bad?
Thanks again

The Alpine decks are known for having a weak sub output. I had a 7894 and the sub out was only about 1.8V peak. While the rest of the outputs are really 4V for front and rear.
I would look at the gain setting on the amp for sure. If they've set it for the claimed 4V that Apline puts on their literature, then that could cause your low output.
Also make sure that your sub level on the deck is turned up. On mine the sub setting of +15 was actually the full sub output. Which is where it should be set (or slightly lower 11-13) for calibrating the gains on the amp.

Well I went back to (Uncle Steve, Canal street NYC)to return he Sony XM-D400P5 and they gave me a hard time with the return. So I now have a store credit Anyhow, I went to etronics (on essex st Manhattan good people / 30 day moneyback gaurente) and picked up the Alpine MRD-M500 ($199.95) and WOW, what a diffrence. The Kappa is really HITTING!!! I should have stuck with this initially. I still need some help with the settings on both the amp and the headunit. I still need to fine tune the system, but dont understand the instructions? If anyone in the NYC area can help please let me know.
Thanks for the help guys. I now know QUALITY QUALITY QUALITY!!!!
