All you need to know is:

Valentine 1
Escort 8500

Both amazing units, and people will prefer the V1 because of its arrows and remote display capabilities. I believe the v1 is ~$350 and the 8500 is ~$275.

i got the v1 for xmas last year..oh man does it work. At first i was skeptical but its all about how you set it. It has 3 modes to be set in and depending the area you drive it can be very effective. My girlfriend paid 400 for it.

BEL, BEL, BEL...My BEL980 has saved me more than a few times. BEL now has the 985, apparently a few more features but probably the same in performance that counts. I doubt that you'll find any detector that you can hear over really cranked up tunes.

Yeah, my cuz who's up on all that stuff uses Valentine. To me, it's pretty annoying hearing that thing beeping all the time, though. Useless against laser, he got a 105 mph ticket in MA.

One solution is to move to philly. There are no cops and even if they happen to be around, they rarely budge from their parking spots. What a difference between PA and NYS.

Yeah I hear ya, laser is a biatch..it'll get ya everytime, I don't think it matters what you got. I wish the cops were that lazy in NM, they always trying to get us military ppl...I think they're jealous...lol

V1 is the only one worth buying at 400. Passport 8500 is as good in terms of detection range but does not give you the info that the V1 does...and the info is hella helpful.

Nothing will protect you against laser...so the V1 is not a license to speed.

i paid 20 bucks for my whistler and it does the same freaking job! I never got ONE speeding ticket since I got it for 2 years already. I am not going to blow 400 bucks for a souped up detector. I got mine from buy.com when they had a radar detector sale with free ship, good luck.

Not to embarrass you in public or anything, so I'm gonna ask you to pass the bowl so I can have some of that stuff you're smoking....

Why don't you drive a Yugo instead of a Maxima if both get you from point A to point B????? A $20 detector couldn't hold the V1's jockstrap and one day YOU will find first hand why.

My brother has the cordless Escort and, although convenient, it just doesn't perform as well as the 8500. Especially on looong road trips. Dead batteries frighten me.
