Need recommendations on a sub.

I'm thinking about replacing my present subs with something smaller in size and weight. Here's my criteria for a new sub:

10"-12"
Dual Voice Coil
Sealed enclosure
Would like it to be as small a box as possible (so it's easily removeable on race days)
Will be run with a Kicker ZR600

Right now I have 2 12"Kicker Free-Air's in a big ported box. Please let me know any suggestions you guys have and price, if you know how much they are. Thanks.

orion hcca or XTR. The HCCA's have been replaced by the 2ng gen H2, which I haven't heard yet, but if they're anything like the oringal HCCA's, they would be amazing. PM me if you are interested in HCCA's, because my buddy deals direct with orion and I'm sure he has a few (new and used) laying around (as well as other manufacturers).

Not to throw in another manufacturer, but you can pick up a 10", dual coil, 2 ohm Alpine Type R for $99 at www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com. I just bought 2, and although I haven't installed them yet, I've heard they're pretty decent for the price. They'll take something like 300 W RMS / 1000 W Peak

I was on my lunch break today, screwing around with a new CD I got from a friend of mine. It's a USAC SPL Shootout CD. Everything was sounding really good when I heard a loud pop and it sounded like I turned the volume way down. Blew one my subs. Guess this single sub idea might happen a little quicker than I planned.

I may look into those Alpine's. I have Type-S's in my front's and they sound great. That price looks good too.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

www.edesignaudio.com Their 12"s need 1 cu ft. and hit HARD.

www.adireaudio.com is another alternative.

Pioneer is crap. So is most of Rockford Fosgate's stuff.

I like the look (and price) of those Elemental subs.

I unhooked the blown sub tonight and now it's acting like a passive radiator. At least it's not making that horrible noise anymore.

I have had k and a series Ed's. They are awesome. Go to www.caraudioforum.com and do some searching there. You will find that brands like Fosgate, Kicker, etc, are not as great as people think they are.

Alpines and Eclipses seem to be pretty solid though.

EDs are the sexiest looking subs ive ever seen VERY efficient & livley sub. Cant go wrong with it. IF your not concerned about price, a Brahma 12" is a slightly better sub & has a stronger low end, but the A-series is a more livley sub. Either way you cant go wrong, on the CAF you'll see endless arguments about choosing betweent the two.

if your amp is 600 watts bridged rms then a type r will blow. its 300 watts rms and my friend has a jbl 600.1 amp and has blown 2 of them already. ed are good subs, but my friend blew one of their older models on that same amp and the customer service was a joke. they will be a great company in a few years, but for now it seems we all are guinea pigs for it.

I cant argue with that, the 15a is a fine example of what your talking about. The are still a baby company & need about 3-4yrs to work out the problems with customer service & stock.

This is true, but I was under the assumption that he would get two (to match his current setup).

A bridged mono 600 W amp would match up perfectly with two 10" 4 ohm Type-Rs.

I had a JL 10w3 and recently bought an Eclipse Aluminum SW8122DVC. It is in a chambered enclosure, but it sounds incredible and I haven't noticed it being sloppy. I am impressed at how tight it is in this enclosure and it provides a lot of SPL. This is the first non-sealed box I've ever used and I am very happy with it.

I have an old school Phoenix Gold amp that is actually a little underpowered for the sub. I am probably going to get a better amp sometime this year.

If your amp is stable at a lower ohm load, the sub I have is 3.1 ohm, instead of 4 ohm. Running in parallel, it runs at 1.7 ohms per coil instead of 2 ohms.

There are lots of good subs out there and everyone has there own preference. I have had very good luck with JL. I have had several of them and always had a positive experience. I just sold mine to buy the upgrade to 12" sub. I was going to buy another JL, but the shop made me a good deal on the Eclipse.

Eclipse is one hell of a brand, regardless of what type of audio they are making. They also make some of the best (if not THE best) headunits & multimedia equipment available.

The XXX drivers are insane. They are pretty much what you'd consider a wattage sponge. The only thing I dont like about them is the amount of air space you need to make them reach their limit.
A 4cu.ft box ported to 30hz with 1500rms and the XXX still wont reach Xmax. Still, its one MEAN sub.
