Amp Ohm Help

These are the specs for my amp. I used to run 2 12's( 4 ohms each) off of it and bridge it and it would work for about a month or so and then it would go out. I had it fixed twice. I know for some reason it would go out because of the set up I was running. But, I was wondering if I could bridge it now that I am only running one 12(4 ohm) off of it. I just don't understand the ohm thing and why an amp goes out when it is bridged. Hopefuly these specs can help you out.

6 CH: 4 x 75 Watts RMS (4 ohms) [4 x 150 Watts peak] +2 x 150 Watts RMS Bridged (4 ohms) [2 x 300 Watts peak]

5 CH: 4 x 75 Watts RMS (4ohms) [4 x 150 Watts peak] + Bridged 150 Watts RMS (4 ohms) [300 Watts peak]

4 CH: 4 x 75 Watts RMS (4 ohms) [4 x 150 Watts peak] 4 x 100 Watts RMS (2 ohms) [4 x 200 Watts peak]

3 CH: 2 x 75 Watts RMS (4 ohms) [2 x 150 Watts peak] Bridged 150 Watts RMS (4 ohms) [300 Watts peak]

You can bridge one pair of the channels to the 4 ohm sub. You will have 4 channels left over for mids and tweets.

I am bridgeing it right. It probably is the quality of the amp b/c it is a Jenson. It is the XA6040LX. Even thogh it is a Jenson it is pretty decent,at least I think so. I know there is better but my budget doen't think so, I am just working with what I have right know. I have had it for about 4 years too.

So is the combination of the ohms of the sub and the amp specs messing it up or is it just a shiity amp?

Also, do you think it will make a difference now that I am only running one sub?

Re:

Your original setup was wrong and therefore causing your amp to burn. When you were bridging to the two 12s (4 ohms each) your amp was seeing a 2 ohm load and probably was not stable at 2 ohms for long periods of time.

Now you would be bridging to one 12 and the amp would be seeing a 4 ohm load. Which it is stable at that load. Keep this setup with the hardware you have now.

Thanks for the info,I will see if it will work right now. If it doesn't, it is time for a new one.

And nismos14 you probably right if it was good it wouldn't need fixing.
