Subwoofer recommendation

Ok...I've pretty much been a JL Audio man, when it comes to subwoofers, but I'm wonderinf if there is any single 10" or 12" sub that would give me great performance in a less than 1 cu. ft. enclosure that will not suck more than 150 watts...(thats what my xtant is putting out)

Thanks,

O

150 watts isnt very much so nothing is going to hit too hard...

at around 400 you really start to feel it

no i havent, but judging from the rms it puts out i would not expect that much

not saying it isnt a good amp or anything but you will not be able to power a 500 watt rms sub with a 150 watt amp...

well...fyi...Xtant are some of the truest and under rated amps...they front stage of this amp powers my Boston Pros, which ask for 200 watts plus RMS and sound awesome....but I'm just looking for a sub reference here....u got one?

Stick with JL Audio. I am the same as you, after hearing my first JL nothing else even compairs. I am running 1 12W6v2 wiring @ 2ohms with only 200watts & it bangs rediculously hard. I am using a PPI 5440 5 channel amp 30 x 4 @ 4ohms for the mids & highs / 200 x 1 sub channel @ 2ohms. Stick with JL I have yet to see another company that produces as high a quality loud speaker that works as good in small enclosures. If space is your issue then go to Jl's website & check out there stealth boxes for the Maxima. If someone ever opened your trunk they would never know there is a subwoofer in there. I think there box holds a 10W3 which will hit more the enough if your into the quality of your music instead of what the people outside think as you drive past them.

nostrixoxide,

funny thing is I used to run the exact SAME amp that you're running...great piece of equipment for versatility... but back to the subject....Currently I'm running a 12W0 and that bangs...with the 150 watts its getting...I was just thinking that maybe I'd go with a 10w3 or listen for advice to go listen to a particular sub.

I hear ya on the JL audio thing...I have yet to hear any other sub that wows me like my JLs did abour 10 years ago.

thanks

I would go with one of the new Ed K/kx series drivers.

The 12w6v2 is a complete waste for its cost (speaking from experience)

try mb quart subs. the reference compares very well to the w3 and the premium compares very well to the w6. these subs sound great and have som real low extension.

If looking for decent SQ sub might look into an adire shiva, I have no personal experience with them but I am currently running an adire tempest which is a 15". Heard great things about the shiva which is a 12 but like it said its not from personal experience, just from what I have read and from my use of the tempest.

SoundSplinter has some subs that are supposed to play very clean, and at reasonable prices. TC Sounds make their subs. Here is a link to their site. Should be able to get something from them in a couple of weeks. I plan to order one of their 10" subwoofers.

Here is the link:
www.soundsplinter.com

This one is their 10" model, whick has an Xmax of 20mm and costs $135 or $141 depending on how many voice coils it has :

Really liking the Tempest, running it in a sealed box with an amp bridged that can push 600 rms @ 4 ohms, gain is set low on amp though cause it rattles the crap out of my trunk and I would be deaf with it turned up Good and clean bass even with it just spliced into the bose wiring, got bunch of other stuff on the way right now to completly overhaul my system and get rid of the bose, also plan to sound deaden to get rid of as much of the rattles as possible.

Kove Armageddons man. Some of the deepest subs you will ever hear, but they require more than 150 watts.

They probley have not considered anything in a while since this thread is about five years old, ive never considered a powered woofer or powered bass tube due to the fact that they will hardley be heard in a fourth gen trunk. Money could be better spent . You could have much more output from a single ten or twelve in a sealed enclosure if space was an issue. a 13x13x13 box would be swallowed alive accounting the trunk is big enough for a few dead bodys. Sorry for the novel, just my .02s
