Its a VERY nice deck, but complete overkill. Most amps cant even accept anything more then 8v. You need to buy an adapter to make it work. The CD8443 (or whatever the new model is) is more then enough for 95% of the people out there. Unless your a complete audiophile.

VQ-Thats good to hear

I guess Im a complete audiophile. I figure, how many times in my life am i gonna go all out on something I enjoy this much. So my next system which im saving for now will be the best i can buy. I had a CDA-9815 before now, which cost me around 400 at the time, and i can get the 8053 for about the same, so I figure hell yeah. Plus, with Zapco amps balanced inputs, the SQ is gonna be completely out of control.

$550, but I'm only using it at 8v.

You have to buy an adapter for it to put out 16v, and I think it's at least an extra $100. But judging by how good my stuff sounds, I don't think you need it. So long as you get a quality amp and speakers to go with it.

I have had no problems with the head unit, or the amp. The point source co-axs I had in the beginning, now that's a different story. They were very good speakers, but didnt compare to another set of components.

Just a quick reminder for everyone...HU output voltage has absolutely nothing to do with SQ, per se. It helps reduce system noise by allowing the gains on your amps to be set lower. A properly installed system with a 4V HU can be plenty quiet.

VQ...what made you change your mind? IIRC, didn't you conclude that you were happier with your Pioneer? Glad you're liking the Eclipse!!

HitmanSE...What's the difference between the 8053 and the new deck (8454 I believe) in terms of SQ? I thought they were pretty much identical in those respects, the main difference being the newer one is more MP3, WMA & memory stick compatible.

Nothing really, thats why I stated id lean toward the 8443 (or whatever then new model # is) Ofcourse id love the new features, I just didnt think it would be worth going upto the 8053, the 8443 has just as many feature IMO and 8v pre-outs are more then enough to allow you to set you gains pretty low. Hell I have my gains set at about 25-30%. Thats enough to make it quiet

when i have my system hooked up with my "crappy" 4 volt out h/u it has no noise problems at all. anything above 4 is excessive imo unless you have a very sensitive amp.

I used to have an eclipse deck and loved it. I'll be doing 2 installs this summer, both with the Eclipse units. First a Mazda 6 with an 8454, which is the newer one in the lineup, then a simple (i'm kinda broke...but not too broke system for my Maxima...either 8443 or 8053, DLS UR 36s's (3 ways with mid dome), 2 ESX 175.2's and a sub still to be determined..One of these head units will really help me to keep it simple and get rid of external processors.

Unfortunately I don't have the money to go all active, but hopefully I can do well with the processing the Eclipse offers and the passives that come w/ the DLS's.

Eclipse has always made good stuff, especially their head units. I have heard good things about their amps, but no personal experience. I had a pair of their coax's way back that were pretty decent for the money. Their "toughness" on internet sales and on dealers as far as pricing goes has hurt them.

4-8 V is PLENTY given the rest of the system is up to par.

Same **** as 4v pre-outs. Only thing is you dont have to turn the gains up as much to get the same effect, that way you have less noise. With a 4v pre-out id have to crank my gains upward to 60-70%, but right now they are between 25-30%
