How can I install 6x9's in rear deck?

My stock (Non-Bose) rear deck speakers are shot, I had some 200watt 6x9 Pioneers laying around for a long time so I decided to install them in the maxima, but I cant figure out how the heck to get the speakers out of the dang thing!! The speaker covers dont seem to want to come off (I feel like it will break before I pry it off). I look underneath in the trunk and I see the 4 bolts sticking through that hold the speakers on but the bolt heads seem to be underneath the speaker covers, and I just dont want to break anything....I wish I could search but I cant as you all know....I need some help Please, I have a road trip comming up and I really want to have decent sounding speakers....
Any Help would be appreciated!

take out the bottom cushion of the rear seat, then the back cushion, then remove the deck lid. those covers are attached to the fabric cover! if you're gonna install 6x9's (stock at 6.5" round) you're gonna have to cut a bigger hole in the deck, and in your cover, so you'll have to take it all apart anyways.

Thanks a lot, your help is greatly appreciated!! I'll get on it tomorrow, maybe try to tade my 6x9's for some 6 3/4" speakers like some other people said they have..
I can't believe you have to take the back seat cushions out to get to the fabric cover! Again, thanks man your a real help....

BTW - I looked through the FAQ's a few times, but the answers about the speaker installation always seemed to be hiding from me...

it's not as bad as it sounds, theres some tabs you pull on underneath the bottom cushion to take it off, then two screws in the bottom corners (maybe 3? i think its two tho) that hold the back cushion in place, then you yank it out.

there was a trick to it, but i can't remember. I found it on some car stereo installation guide for maximas, try doing a search

then the back lid has those plastic snaps like those that hold the trunk together underneath the fabric, you gotta wedge your hand in there and get it next to each one and pop it up so you dont crack the cardboard lid, dont try and do it from the edge!!

it's also good to get some adapter clips for the speaker wiring.

very nice skiborder, do you have an amp for yours? mine are way underpowered without an amp but they still sound amazing.

I was thinking about doing this monday/tuesday. I believe at first I'm just going to let the stock stereo power them (anyone know the actual power output of the stock stereo? cd/cassette non bose type.)

Later I will get a line convertor and put in a 100x2 or 125x2 amp for the 6x9's. Can't wait.

Tyrexx: got any suggestions on making a good cut guide for the 6x9's?

tomservo291 - just buy some 6x9s and trace them, it's not that hard at all and you can't match the bass 6x9s can make. Just get in the trunk with your legs crossed, (you will fit, i'm huge and I fit) just look through the back window, it's nice eye protection too Hopefully you dont have too dark tint, I did my 6x9's before tint. + i used a jigsaw http://www.homedepot.com/cmc_upload/...s/162869_3.jpg

how thick is the metal? I was thinking a dremel from inside the car might be possible (mine is cord, not battery operated. power isn't an issue)

and true that about 6x9 bass, my '88 camaro only had a crapass 50x4 pioneer deck and I had some sweet bass for having no subs

I did my 6x9's yesterday. (sorry digi cam on vacation, no pics)

Very pleased with the sound upgrade from stock, now I can put the newer 6.5's that I replaced in the rear before into the doors (the rear deck had a blown stock speaker when I bought the car.)

But let me tell you, it was a ***** cutting it out with a dremel. I should have taken out the tension bars and used a jigsaw from underneath like someone else suggested, would've taken two hours off my install time!
