how to install an eq??
I got an Eclipse 2101 6 band eq yesterday, and it has 8 rca jacks on the back... dont have a clue as to what they go to. Has anyone here installed an eq like this? I have an amp running my 6 1/2's and 6/9's, and i'm putting another amp in that will be running 2 12's. Anyone know how this hookup goes, or where a installation guide is on the net?
thanks
thanks
Yes I've installed similar types in my car before. An Orion and a DEI unit.
Basically you hook up one pair of inputs from your aftermarket headunit, or from your factory deck using a line output converter.
Then you feed the subwoofer output to your subwoofer amp input channels, the front output to the amp input channels that feed your front speakers and the rear output to the amp input channels that feed your rear speakers.
Setup the EQ properly for the gain/level control as you would for an amplifier.
If you have any more questions on EQ settings or crossover settings feel free to post them...

Assuming, you got the EQ a 12v signal so it will turn on...
Take a RCA cable and run it from one of the RCA outs on your head unit (Doesnt really matter, just make sure its either the front speaker or rear speaker out and not the sub out) to the input signal on the EQ.
Then simply take the RCA cables from your amp and run it to the proper RCA in on the EQ. For example take the RCA cable that you were using to send the signal from your head unit to the amp you said that was powering your front speakers and run it to the RCA input on the EQ labeled "front."
Since you only have one amp that powers your front and rear speakers you will lose your fade until you get another amp to run your rear speakers.
As for when you get an amp to power your subs, just like you did previously, run the RCA cable from your sub amp to the RCA in on the EQ titled "sub in" or "subwoofer."
Good Luck

One more thing....
I was looking for an old EQ instruction sheet from the Alpine web site but it appears as if they have removed all of their instruction manuals.
EQ installs are very similar from unit to unit, if you can get your hands on one, the directions you have seen on this thread will be even more vivid.
