About radar

Well here is my question, say if i were to buy a rader unit like say one for about 150ish well i live in ct where radar is legal to buy but illegal to use and i have one question...

Say if i were to buy a radar detector n install it and everything...and there was a cop coming towards me will he be detected or not is my question. but keep in mind that both cars are driving normally....and the cop doesn't have his radar gun out or anything he is just driving...

Radar detector use is now legal in CT. It was overturned a couple of years ago. VA and Washington DC are the only two places in the US where it's illegal. It's easy, if a cop is running radar you will detect him no matter which direction he is coming from. If he's not using radar, common sense tells us you won't hear anything from your radar detector. Your not going to be happy with a $150 detector though. Your best bet is to get in on a group deal for around $240 through the org for the Escort X50.

Escort X50 is sick, it hardly work, just around 1/4 of the mile detect the cop, and usually it is too late, I just ordered the V1, it has 1/2 range and can show the direction if there is more than one cops around you, fron or back, give me few days and I will try to post the result of it

If the cops in your area run POP Instant-on, your screwed with or without the detector. Only protection you would possibly have against POP is if the cop hit someone in front of you and the detector picked up the reflected signal.

My advice... Just stay honest and ride without one. If you are stopped and you have the 'fuzz buster' hangin from the windshield, YOU ARE GETTING A TICKET. No questions asked. However, if you didn't have one, you could just be honest and say that you really weren't paying attention to your speed, and he/she might reduce it dramatically or not even issue one altogether.

Just my .02,

Agreed and to add to that...a radar detector typically gives the false sense of security to in fact speed more than you would normally.

That's because people, as seen in this thread, don't know how to use one.

If people learned HOW a RD works rather than guess, you'd have a lot less problems with people thinking it's some kind of force field around your car or that it detects "police cars" rather than police radar signal. Kinda silly assumptions when you remember that you're talking about an electronic object that is the size of a wallet and costs between $50-$400.
