Amp for System
Amp for System
I want Infinity Kappa 652.5i 6-3/4 2-way speakers.
Then, I want a Kicker Solobaric L5 Sub. One thing I don't know is would the 10" fit in the square opening in our trunks/rear seats or only an 8"? Also, should I get 4 ohms or 2 ohms and what's the big difference?
Last thing is I don't want to use 2 amps, I'd rather just use one and not go over $200 so what do oyu guys think is best for me? I know I need a 4-Channel amp right, but what would make my car sound good? For example what about this: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-88pLw1YHLsi/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=120&I=020APA450 would it be good enough?
Then of course some good wires like Scosche I suppose.

well, personally i dont like that amp. and if your asking if that amp will make your system including the sub sound nice, then no. IMO. always remember just becuase the amp sais 50x4 doesnt mean it is going to push 50 actual watts x4 on constant basis alot of manufacturers get their stats from un-realistic test conditions that most car owners will ever have. remember you get what you pay for in most cases with any electronics. to get the most out of your system your gonna want to atleast get an amp that pushes at least 2/3 or more watts rms as the rms on your speaks call for, as in your case those infinities i believe are up to 75 watts rms. a 50x4 amp is a decent choice but in most cases u might actually be getting 25-35 watts rmsx4 from that amp. try to go with one that states what the actuall wattage is at what volts ect.. Rockford fosgate, infinity, Kicker, alpine v12 series (plus others i didnt mention)are all good choices and they tell you in most cases the actual wattage at what volts the amp will produce. and as for the kicker L5 solobaric, that sub will just laff at that amp. to get the best out of your system your going to have to spend more than 200 dollars on an amp and i would go with 2 amps, a 4 channel and a mono sub amp. as far as the diffrence in the 4ohm and 2ohm L5's i would go with a 4ohm L5 and a 2 ohm stable mono sub amp basically the lower the ohms the more power your amp will produce so u could get a smaller amp (save some cash) drop it to 2 ohms and your getting more bang for your buck here is a wiring diagram that can help you http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp
I would spend a lil more money and get a 4 channel for the infinities and a mono sub amp for the L5, but thats just my 2 pennies. their are some other factors that you can look at to get the most from your system but in most cases if ur sending at least 2/3 actual watts to the speaker that it calls for then it will sound great.

Hey, thanks for the replies. As for the amp situation, I guess I will go to not only a larger one, but 2 of them. Only thing is you say 2/3 of what the Speakers call for, so like 90, 100 or 111 RMS x 4 for an amp would be perfect?
Also, for the Mono amp what are the specs I should look for to handle that L5 Sub?
Another thing is, can I hook up Components to the rear and place the tweeters on the B Pillars and keep my stock tweeters with the other 2 non-component Infinities in the front? I was thikning maybe more of a surround sound type deal, if possible.
Here's the 2 amps I was looking at for the 4-channel:

ok about the 2/3 rms power thing, say for example u get a set of speakers that call for 2-99 watts rms, idealy u want to get an amplifier that pushes minimum of 66 watts to that speaker another thing that will affect how that speaker performs is the sensativity rating, now dont get confused with what im about to say
The higher the sensativity rating of the speaker the better it will perfom at minimal power, that is not to say that a speaker with a low sensativity rating wont sound good. this is basically just the speakers efficiancy, speakers with higher sens. ratings are more efficient compared to speaks with lower ratings. in most cases a rating of 89db and above is a pretty efficiant speaker and will sound good with minimal power, but as always they will never max their performance unless the amps power is matched with the speakers rms. Now dont run out and see a speaker u want that has a sens rating of 85 and say screw that it sux, cuzz it doesnt, all it means is it requires more power to sound clean. I really dont worry to much about sesitivity ratings for mids, highs mainly just subs, but like i said before its best if u always stay on or above 2/3 of the rms of any speaker especially those with lower sens ratings. as for the L5 sub, u want to look for a class d amp, im pretty sure all mono sub amps are, and make sure its 2 ohm stable if ur gonna wire for lower impedence. i believe that the rms on that sub is 50-450, keep in mind its a DVC sub so that would mean 225 watts rms per voice coil so remembering the 2/3 idea u would want to get an amp that is atleast 2/3 of the total 450, u do the math i suck at it. also then look at its sens rating and go from there, another thing to consider is your enclosure but thats a whole nuther story and unless your gonna sign up for some competitions don't worry to mush about that.
as for the amp for the infinities i cant say, simpy becuase i dont know what the other pair of speakers are, another thing about the way your system sounds is speaker placement, very important for SQ, i cant tell you where to place them cuzz its all about what u think when ur installing and how you like your sound, I myself would put the components up front cuzz as far as im concerned screw the ppl in the back they can have the 2 0r 3 ways, put the tweeters in the pillars up front where the stock ones are, hopefully the set your getting has swivel capability so you can aim your tweeters to your liking for SQ, you then could custom install the stock tweets somewhere in the back and run them off your head unit or just throw them out, if ur 2 or 3 way speaks are decent then i would just chuck the stock tweets but thats all up to u.
P.S. i cant spell for sh%t
