Eclipse AVN5435 DVD-Video/Navigation/CD

You urself have it installed in ur car? Can you show us pictures? Also, whats the deal with the 5495? Whats so cool about it ? What do u like and dont like about it, and if u can, compare it to the n1.
I had the avic-n1, but i returned it due to financial reasons. For the time i had it, i liked it. But few things bothered me: when u changed the menus, it was slow and lagging, it felt like it was running on a pentium II with windows 98.

That looks good bro. Tell me more about it? How do u like it ? Hows the navigation and everything? Is the screen design and everything look nice?
Also, i like the idea of the two cdroms, one for cd's and one for dvd. So that u can just leave ur nav cd in the dvd slot and then switch and listen to a cd if u want.

How much of a gap is left with the GXE dash piece?

These pics were taken BEFORE i installed GXE dash kit, i'm too lazy to take pics of current.

about 1 inch from the center vents to the unit itself, that's about 1 inch tall and like 3-4 inches across in the middle.
it looks like a very thin pocket for CD holder, that's what 90% of people getting in my car told me, they thought i would keep my CDs there, very small gap.
but since a lot of people are asking for this, i think i'll get my lazy *** up and take a picture of the unit with the gxe dash kit sometime soon.

ok, finally i took some pics with my phone.
not the clearest of pics, but shows how the GXE dash kit flows with the AVN.
everyone that got in my car thought it was OEM, everyone would look in disbelief when it played mp3 and dvds.
you see where i'm pointing? that's the gap, very small!

ok, you should do a little search, i have posted pros and cons numerous times.
but anywayz, here goes:
i like the unit very much, worth every darn penny i spent on it.
Pros:
- 5v Pre outs for unrivaled sound quality over any other in-dash dvd/nav units.
- GPS of this unit does quite good with not much lag (yes, it is a little bit slow, but it's the fastest i've seen so far). If you ever take a look at the AVIC's navigation, you will know what i mean.
- it looks like it came stock from the factory with the gxe dash kit (less chance of theft, or attempted theft).
- Comes with a 1 year theft protection (if it gets stolen within 1 year, eclipse will give you a brand spanking new one free of charge) <--- this one alone beats the whole competition, makes your investment protected.
- you can play mp3 or cds while navigating GPS, since unit comes with 2 slots, 1 for DVD and 1 for CDs, this is the only unit that has this feature besides the ones that come with Hard drives.
- the unit is all put in together in a double-din. Meaning it does not have a separate "Brain" like the pioneer units. Thus it's a space saver.
- ESN security feature makes sure no one can use it if stolen, so you can rest asure that the motherphucker who stole it can't use it, and at the same time you get a new unit from Eclipse if under theft protection period.
Cons:
- MP3 player is slow when changing songs, like a 2-3 second delay, 4-5 seconds when navigating. <-- i contacted Eclipse about this, they said they are working on a fix for this. Very good customer care, replied same day.
- Screen resolution is kind of low compared to other units without navi built-in, but same with other units with nav built in. resolution is only 400 X 234 X 3, not bad, but could have been better.
- Cannot play VCDs nor any other formats besides DVD (mpegs) and MP3s.
- only 3 selectable wallpapers, no screen savers.
Basically this unit is all for performance, not visual entertainment.

Sweeet man. Thanks alot for the little review.
Quick question...
lets say im navigating somewhere, what if i wanted to play DVD while doing so? Does it have some sort of memory in which it saves the route into? How else does would it work? or can you even do this at all???

This is regarding watching a DVD movie while navigating..
"Depends on your installer, but yes it can be hooked up to watch DVD's while you drive. However! The Navigation DVD must be in the unit to get directions. Once you have set the course, you can take the Nav DVD out and Nav will continue to work on course even with a DVD playing. If you miss a turn or there is a detour, you will have to reinsert the Nav DVD to recalculate new directions."

yes that is true.
but from my experience using the unit, 70% of the time i need the nav to recalculate, not because of inaccurate info, but because of common sense driving.
i hate to swap discs while on the move, so whenever i need navi, i tell everyone in my car to STFU about playing DVDs and just pop the navi dvd in.

Someone already asked, but I decided to ask again in case you forgot. Don, you said the GXE dash kit won't work on an I30. For a '01 I30, is there any dash kit out there that'l fit the AVN? Where can I get it and for how much $?
