Viper 791XV

I had the Viper 791XV installed into my car today and I only got one remote. I just realized that if I lose the remote I will never be able to start my car.

I wanted get one from ebay. But is it true that I would have to go back to the place that installed my alarm to add another LCD Paging Remote? Is this something I could do myself?

Why wouldnt you be able to start your car?

You can buy the remote anywhere and its very easy to program.

Im thinking the only reason he wouldnt be able to start his car is he doesnt have a 2nd immobilizer key and he put the chipped key in the 556U In which case, you should bite the bullet and get a 2nd chipped key.

+1 programming is easy.

I think I might have already asked this question but I was wondering if I were to use that 791 on my 771 will it work. I really just want to use the LCD. And this way I can also have 2 Remotes correct?

Then he would Never be able to manually start his car, unless they ran the status in to constant ground, rather then to the status out from the unit...

The probably just never told him where/how to manually override the system if he doesnt have a remote..

Correct. And although this isnt the right way to do it, Ive seen it done before by other shops, who then come to CC for other stuff.

Mine telling me how?

Is the 556U used for the remote starter? Then yeah that's where my spare key is. All I know is if I don't un-arm the alarm before I put the key in the door then my alarm goes off.

The probably just never told him where/how to manually override the system if he doesnt have a remote..
Is that the valet switch? So to manually start the car all I have to do is hit the velet switch?

Install Manual

Owners Manual

Looking at the Install manual glossary real quick it should be page 35 that talks about programming remotes.

Owners manual: disarming without a transmitter, page 24

Damn it's harder than I thought after reading page 35 of the install manual.

On another note, today I was told that they were going to setup my trunk reless and I didn't relive that they hadn't until I got home. What exactly do they have to do to set that up? I plan on going back tomorrow to have them do it. My cousin told me they are going to charge me more money because they are going to have to install another unit for the trunk release. Is that true?

They do have to install a relay. But you should definitely go back and demand not to pay. A relay doesnt cost them more than a few bucks, so at most they might want you to pay for the relay itself, but you should definitely pay no labor if they promised it would be in and it isnt. And if they say the relay itself costs 20 bucks, tell them thats bullsh!t.

Good luck.

For you Max owners that had your 791 installed by a shop, I hope you all don't mind me asking what you paid to have your system installed in the Lower 48? I know different features can up the price. I have trunk release alarm and auto start.

Ahight, I don't feel so bad, I know here in AK they tend to like to jack prices up pretty high since there's really no sales competition.
