Dude,

This is excellent. You are one brave soul taking this car entirely apart and putting it back together but better. Almost like the Bionic man! hahahah Anyway, mad props to you!

If I ever have a question on taking something apart, I'm coming to you!

Do you plan to add sludge to the doors?

Damn! And I thought I was going to be the first one to do that! Nice choice with the deadener. I was originally going to use RAAMmat, but the stuff was too expensive for me, and SS had way better deals...plus the liquid deadener, which I can see is going to be quite useful for deadening some of the roof and pillars. How well did it deaden the cabin?

Not Sludge, but Spectrum. 5 layers per door, 1 gallon total on the doors. I will get to that soon, but I am pulling my hair out finishing the panel painting right now.

Dedication to service, Dan I bow down to you. I have yet to get back to deadening some of the areas in my car but this weekend is looking better to get back started. Funny thing is after deadening the trunk so much, on certain songs it sounds so much clearer in the car and then sometimes I have to crank the volume up to about 13 or 14 to get it to a decent sound level. I wonder if I deadened it too good.

haha, I guess I will have to find out! Thanks for the compliment. Second Skind has some HELLA good deals on sludge and overkill right now...so good I wish I had waited on the purchase. PLUS they are running a group deal right now.

Ok, fellas...starting EARLY Saturday morning, the entire interior gets gutted and the uber-interior makeover commences!!!

Wanna move to cali for a few weeks and do my car? Complete interior makeover? I pay well. LOL, but if you are willing to make some money, I may propose a business deal to make some interior stuff for me. Sound deadening i'll handle.

Well...

- Doors: 6 sqft. per door, plan on 30sqft.
- Rear Deck: 8 sqft.
- Trunk: 30 sqft.
- Trunklid: 10sqft.
- Roof: 10sqft.
- Floor: 50sqft. (This is only an approximation...I have not gotten there, yet.)
------------------------------------
~150 sqft.

If you were going to only do a single layer, I would highly recommend using a liquid deadener since this wil give you the benifits of both mass and barrier loading in a single shot. 4 gallons of Second Skin Sludge would do WONDERS over conventional mat. All you need to do is glop a single layer on and you're set. Right now Sludge is one sale for $29 a gallon...PLUS the GD is going on...so you're talkin about $100 to do your WHOLE CAR. Not a bad deal in the least.

...Second Skin is having some CRAZY deals right now...so much so that I really wish I'd have waited to buy everything.

Alright, after fighting with all of my interior panels for the day, I resumed this project during the evening hours. I started by doing the bottom side of the rear deck, but had to stop because my stomach didn't take too lightly to the weird effect I felt sitting upside down...

...and now it was time to start the back of the car...

...I added a layer of Damplifier to the back, putting two layers on the wheel wells.

...tommorow I am going to tap the holes for my speakers and start the Spectrum process.

Old tags. I have these to keep the 5-0 at bay, now:

Well, Hazmat is intended to be used on the backside of interior panels, although it can be used on other places as well. I used Hazmat on the back of my wheel wells and various interior panel backsides. It is quite easy to work with. It does not have, however, a heatfoil on it, hence why it's not recommended to be used purley as a mass loader. You can find out more about it HERE.

MAN am I sore today. More pics coming up later on this evening...I gotta get back to working on this thing!!!

This is such a great project! I admire your work!

So, if i buy the Second Skin Sludge .... does this thing have ANY odor?
I'll put it inside and if it smells bad - this will be a problem? IS it completely odorless, even when under the sun?

If i put it in the wheel wells - is it weather resistent? I live in California and winter could be very very wet. How does this hold when exposed to cold, wet, salty roads?

My main problem with my 2003 Maxima SE is the road/tire noise. I really want to decrease it somehow and relatively small amout of Dynamat and Second skin stick-pads i have used did NOT help much. I'm looking at some liquid solution that can be applied easier, yet everywhere. I don't have time to disassemble the whole car, but i would like to treat the foot wells and the wheel wells if possible. I think that this would help.
Thanks!

He lives in NJ... there's no way in hell that your roads are worse... colder, wetter, saltier or otherwise.

More than likely a large amount won't help that much either. Have you thought about getting different tires?

Ugh, Christ. I finally stripped the cabin down to bare metal today, removed the dash, and did a dry-fit of my speakers. I know in most cars it's pretty easy to do all of this, BUT NOT IN A MAXIMA. My hands are sore as $hit right now. Tommorow I finish up all mat applications, and I'll take those stupid pedals the previous owner put on them off, and put some nice, new AE pedals on.

Not sure if we have talked about this or not. I cut a 12X12 inch sqaure of mat andwent over the mounting ring to ensure no air leaks there.

PM me with your email addy. I will try and see if my pics will load and send you some of the doors.

Well Metal, you sound like a perfectionist like me, so here are two things you probably haven't considered if you want a truly quiet, solid car:

1. Subframe Connectors. They will stiffen the chassis a ton and thereby eliminate chassis flex and interior rattles, as well as improving ride and handling simultaneously. The car will be much more solid and composed on less-than-perfect roads.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=255346
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=423885
New SFCs will be available soon: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....33#post4299833

2. Chassis-stiffening foam. It's injected into the frame rails where it expands and hardens. Not many people know about it but it sounds fairly straightforward. It stiffens the chassis too, but more importantly, it turns the frame rails of the car from sound-conductive (like the hollow metal rods they are) to sound-dampening. People say it makes a very noticeable reduction in road noise. The Infiniti Q45 and other luxury cars come with this stuff stock; it's one of the secrets to a quiet luxury car.

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?p=3906175

Keep up the good work—your car is gonna be quiet as a vault when done.

I did think about the tires. They are the reason for most of the road noise - no doubt. Unfortunately, 2003 Maxima is a car that has very few choices when it comes to tire selection. My current Michelin Pilot sport A/s (mounted on Z wheels) are great but they are really really noisy, in my opinion. I'm not sure what tire to get next and if it will really make a difference in noise levels.
