Got pictures of 5th Gen maxima with aftermarket HU?
I am trying to decide if i want to upgrade my 2003 Maxima SE HU with something that is better quality than the stock NON-bose head unit.
I have the money but i am not sure if i will like the look of a single DIN unit installed in the 2 DIN space. I don't want to make my dash look ugly.
The 2 DIN units that liked (Pioneer AVIC D1) seem to be way too expensive so i'll stay away from them for now.
Can anyone post pictures of 5th Gen Maxima with an aftermarket HU installed?
Thanks!

Not to be very fussy to you merovi, but your first pic isnt the Metra kit. It looks to me like the AMI kit. The current Metra 99-7416 is the 2nd pic I posted, the main difference is the pocket is smaller and therefore the radio sits just a tad lower. It also looks like with your AMI kit that theres a gap between the dash kit and the a/c controls, so to wheeldream, Id recommend Metra over AMI.
Also, you hated the GXE kit itself? Because it looks like the kit is fine, its just that the radio sticks out like a sore thumb. It would look better sitting back flush with the dash, with or without the radio trim ring depending on how small the separate pocket is that you used, Ive done it both ways.
Im not trying to pick apart your installs, just that if I were the creator of this thread, Id want the right info and pictures.
The GXE kit is the way to go if you want it to look 100% factory, if not and if you dont want to spend 90 bucks on it, just go with the Metra kit.

On a side note ... Kevin, you said that the GXE will give the real "factory" look however, earlier you said that with the GXE kit makes the HU stick out a lot more and with the Metra kit it is more flush. Isn't "more flush" better and more "stock looking"? Why is the GXE kit better than the Metra when it comes to factory/stock look?
Thanks!

well i may not have the metra kit because i got it professinally installed and didn't purchase it myself but there is no gap at the bottom. If you look at the middle pic you can see that the bottom millimeter or 2 has a slight angle and the lighting cast a shadow over it.
as for the GXE trim it looked terrible with that cd player no matter what i did. It either sat out too far or sat too far back. There was no in bewteen. Thats why I got rid of it and went the way that I did. I wasn't giving any false information. Thats just how my experience went.

Any kit you buy, except for the GXE kit, comes with everything you need. The GXE kit is factory and will match the rest of the dash the best, its just that people cant get it to look right. PM Filtor1 and have him send you a pic of the Alpine 9833 I installed in his car with the GXE kit and a Metra pocket, it looks perfect.
