Who has 8's in there doors?

Not to difficult or complicated. Just make a baffle and attach it, and dampen and seal the bejesus out of your door.
Whats the restof your front stage (as in are you going 2 or three way? Processing? How much power for it? What year max? That may help people come up with recommendations for ya (different ones depending on whether you're running 2 or 3 way.....)/...though if you're looking for cheap I'd look into the dayton reference, avaliable at partsexpress.com . Would work in 2 or three way. Just have to get that debucking magnet off there, which aint hard.... I don't think you can do better for the meony than that line.

I have a 1995 Maxima GLE w/ Bose. I will be getting a HU for starts. Then i will be looking at a 2-way set-up. Also what type of amp would i need to run just the front stage with the mid and tweeter? I looked at partsexpress and found this mid that i liked, tell me if it would fit. Im looking in the 100^ rms range for each. Is there any other brands that i could look into? What tweeters and amp(s) would be a good pair with the dayton's? The amp(s) being at a reasonable price ie. $200. Would a 2 channel amp work fine? Also, I am lost in the crossover deal with tweeters... Hey kpr10is you live in tampa or gainesville and do you know how to make baffles?

What you linked to is a subwoofer. That won't work in a two way setup as it needs to play midrange well, high enough to cross over to a tweeter. Also, if you don't go with a "ready made component set", you need an amp for each pair of speakers (midrange/tweets) as well as something to cross them over (though many amps have crossovers, just not what I prefer to use).
Whats you budget for the whole system? speakers amps, hu??
Some companies that actually make 2 way component sets with an 8 as part of it from what I remember...
DLS
Morel
Illusion used to
http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....up_ID=489&SO=2 this is the dayton reference I was talking about. Again, buying a raw driver like this, you'd need to get a seperate amp for the mids and for the tweets (or maybe have a passive built for you?). It would work in a two way front stage, though....

Ok, i have 525 to spend on the speakers, amps, wires, and deadening. The HU will just be bought used from my friend. I think the compoenent sets would be more reasonable because you get everything instead of buying everything seperate which seems kinda of pointless to me. I am also looking at 3 way if they arent insane expensive, but where would the third speaker go? I hope it doesnt involve too much work to get third speaker in.
The Dynaudio System 260 doesnt seem too expensive because everything is included with it. Does the System 260 include 2 of everything (8", tweeter, amp)? I will just have to save up some more money the amp kit. I can steal the deadening from my friend that has a ton of it...but will probably need more to get all the unwanted noise out.

I'm not familiar with the sysem 260. The three way dyn components are awesome (as are the two ways). If you go with one of their three way sets, the domes would most likely go in kicks, and aren't too much work to get in there cause you don't have to worry about sealing or treating the area or anything, but some would still call it a bit of work. Contact Don aka pearl96max on here as he's a dyn dealer (and dls, arc....)
In your budget you may wanna just keep it simple, lie a system 240 or something.

The set comes with two amps and/or crossover? I will probably do a system 240 unless i get some more money and manage a 260 or 240GT. Does the system 240 require the ring thing to fit the magnet in?

Do any place sell it with the warranty? I believe one website gave a 1 year warranty, but you know how all these stores come and go...Also, i dont have to go with Dynaudio. What about Mb Quart? I can get the RepairMaster warranty, is this warranty any good? I've seen them everywhere online.

Bumping up my favorite thread on the org with some new (used) 8's! Actually I only had time to get one in, so for the week I'll have one Peerless, one IDQ...I love new toys!!!!! Sooo pumped I didn't even have to make new baffles. It's about time something actually go smoothly!
Front stage coming together! I have power/sound now too!!!!!!

oops i'll resize
Crap...donno bout playing them together actually? The IDQ 8 is showing the amp a 2 ohm load for one channel, and the Peerless is 8. Donno if that would ruin amp or cause a black hole or something???
Guess I'll spend the week with the system off, or see if I can find time to get the other one in after work, now that I know it's a quick switch......

Damn! Wonderful job, grave digger!
So while this thread is bumped, how do you guys with a 3-way active setup fit your midrange speaker. I know the midbass 8" goes into the factory 6.5" location, and the tweeter goes in the A-pillar (5th gens), but where would the midrange go? Other than buying a Q-logic type kick enclosure.

i'm assuming everyone with 8's actually gets louder results and much better mids? as with everything, no matter the positive, there is always a slight negative. Any negative feedback to give about this setup? Mids arent as clear? more vibration if not deadened enough?
For someone looking to get system as loud as possible, i guess that would be best option?

I read the thread, and it attracted my attention because i havent really heard of or seen 8's in a car that was completely decked out with custom door enclosures for them. I noticed that u guys need to build huge baffles for the door but i am assuming that the 8's put in fit the budget?
I was poking around rainbow stuffs and found 8's that they have that are just over 2" deep which would almost eliminate the need for a huge baffle and it would fit in the door with the panel on with no issue.

this is where i found them and then i cross referenced with the rainbow site.

If u have $400 to spend on front components u can find someone to build u baffles. I got 4 8"x1" baffles made and shipped to me for $30.
Plus I think u still have to cut ur door up to get 8's on secured. W/baffles u can just throw some kind of seal behind the baffle, attach the baffle to the door and screw the speaker onto the baffle.
#116
well, either way, a baffle is kind of needed in the case of 8's, im just saying not to the extreme of 2 baffles put together which can cause the door panel to fit improperly. Building baffles isnt an issue, i have built sub boxes before to precise dimensions, baffles dont..baffle me . I suppose with each one its different, if u are trying to fit the 8inch int he stock hole, u just need to calculate the angle of the speaker chassis and figure out how thick the baffle is or cut the whole wider, which is most cases can be detrimental. Just throw my .02 cents to the wolves to see whats brainstormed.
Also, r u guys using any foam baffling on the back of it?
kinda like this
XTC 8" Foam Baffle Pair
i if its foam iwould assume the speaker would blow it back unless it lets air through, and aside from that, you would need to dampen the door, which should be a given regrdless

I would advise against any type of 'sealing' the back of the driver. Most mobile drivers are made to be IB in the door, sealing them up will end in less than desirable results.
