paging Don, come in Don!!!! SWI-ECL q's??

snooping around on the PAC site i noticed they released the SWI-ECL steering wheel control unit for Eclipse head-units

i now have the SWI-X and am not satisfied with it at all..

if this new unit the swi-ecl can make our steering wheel controls work as they should(primarily as fast as they did with the oem units) then i would like to try it out

has anyone had any experiece with this SWI-ECL unit

Hmmm...I from the description I'm liking it except for the fact that it kills my special programming I did with my swi-x.

ie:
1) Vol up, vol down = mute
2) track up, track down = Next disc/next mp3 folder/next radio preset

I can live without 1, but now without 2.

fyi, those of you having trouble with your pac swi-x, make sure your problems lie in the IR pickup, because I have noticed that my car will change resistances (or provides none) when it is cold outside which makes my pac swi-x not work in the mornings. Also, my new 8455 pics up ir signal from my swi-x in direct sunlight.

To add to unrealii's comments, where do you guys have your IR transmitters mounted? I tried a few places before finally just extending the three wires and mounting the transmitter on the back of my rearview mirror, facing directly down at the stereo. I've had it like that for probably 7 months now, and I've never had a problem with reception. Yes, it's still a little slow, but you get used to holding the button down for an extra split second.

Also, I haven't noticed reception being affected by the cold.

There was software issues with the units. Should be resolved in a week or two. At that point I will have them in stock.

IMO, its better only if you are having IR problems. If you have other problems, then I doubt this will do anything.

The best solution would be directly wiring the HU to your controls. Ive gotten this to work, but within limits. The proper/correct resistance is what Im lacking so far.

Theres no delay, it works instantly, but Ive only gotten volume and track UP to work. No down functions. I didnt get extensively involved in trying to figure it out though. Theres only 2 steering control wires in the car itself, then the two coming from the HU. One of which actually did something. Eclipse is working on getting all the info out to the dealers once its more confirmed.

Dont worry I will, as the majority of HUs I sell are Eclipse and people want the steering wheel control option.
