Dynamat Trunk Installation

Ok I have a 00 Maxima and got for a xmas present the Xtreme Dynamat Wedge Pak. It has a 1 piece (4sq.ft) which is like 18" tall n 31" wide....somewehre around there i measured it earlier. I am planning to do the install today and put it on the lid of my trunk, has anyone dynamat'd there trunk?? I really just want any suggestions or input on how you did it or how I should do it . Also If I should go buy another piece from bestbuy, I dont mind buying one , I know its obviously better to get another piece but if I could get away with the similar results using just one pack that would save me money as well. Any suggestions/directions/tips on trunk install??

Just heat up the matting to make it more pliable. Then mount it on. Larger pieces are always good, and with the heat it will contour better to the curves/indentations.

Dont try to rush it, just take your time and make sure you prep the surface well..ie: alcohol or something of the sort.

K thanks, what can I heat it with? Dont have a heat gun so will something like a blowdryer work?? Also Where do you think I should slab this piece on, as a whole piece or cut it out for certian parts of the trunk lid. Like Where those triangles are, should I place them in there and other places or should I put it as a big slab and place it where those triangles are but as a whole piece all along there? I dunno if Im explaining myself well but , It looks like you've done this before and I just wanna know wheres the best place to put this piece or pieces...whatever the case is. Thanks

A hairdryer will work, just alot more time consuming. You try the whole piece at once, but if your new to it (im guessing) then smaller pieces may be the better choice for you.

correct. The back/handle of a screwdriver can be very helpful in pushing it down. If you have the roller, the handle actually performs better.

In that folder are pics of my trunk dampened. The trunk lid took me 25 mins tops, with two layers.

Good luck and happy holiday.

Here is the finished product... so far. I plan to put more dynamat once I get my hands on another roll but for now this will do. I finished in about a hour...I had it on in less than 10 minutes but I took alot of time flattenin it out and making sure it was as flush to the trunk lid as possible...This picture was taken immediately after it was still kinda warm but after about 20 minutes when the mat cooled off, it was firmly secured on and I felt no gaps/bubbles at all as I ran my fingers across it. The picture kinda looks like its not flat but, its as flat as I could get it, I used a screwdriver and mini baseball bat to flatten/roll it out onto the lid....

Depending on the layers and the extent of which you wish to cover it, 40 sqft for the trunk itself, and around 10 to 20 layers for the trunk lid, depending on how many layers you wish to use.

Another thing I would suggest is using some Great Stuff to fill in the gaps of the chassis on the trunklid...also doesn't hurt to get the inside of the lid. Additionally, if you take the lid off completley, it makes it ALOT easier to work with.

Here's what 20 sqft. will do for the lid...

Holy crap. That's how much I put on my WHOLE CAR

It's amazing what a measly 20 sq. ft. can do when placed strategically, though...
