Possible Amp Purchase
Possible Amp Purchase
Alright so i've caught the Sub bug, And im decided on a MTX 8500 Thunder 12", but as far as an amp, I'm just looking for something relatively cheap that will put 600W RMS into it. Ive been looking at a Power Acoustic And i know it wont be the best, but it has nothing but good reviews, and it fits into my price range. Any opinions on the amp/sub? Also, I'm debating between ported and sealed. I understand that a properly tuned ported box will make it possible to run more power into it, but the individual pros/cons i dont know. Either way, hope for some help, and its appreciated in advance
The one power acoustik amp I installed 2 years back went up in smoke. I havent touched another one.
I much prefer the sound of sealed to ported, but it wont be as loud. If your worried about your budget, why not drop down a notch to like a 7500 series if your stuck on mtx. Also, since your an MTX fan on a budget, check fleabay for older Thunder series amps, like the 421D, they usually go for very cheap.

If you are set on that sub and you like that amp, you might consider this http://www.cardomain.com/item/POWA1000DB amp that's about $100 cheaper and buy a Dual 4 ohm VC sub and run it wired to a 2 ohm load and have 800 watts RMS so that you have a bit of headroom. As far as ported or sealed, it's a matter of personal choice. A ported enclosure with a given amount of power tends to increase output slightly over sealed but sealed thends to have a bit better low end extension. Sealed uses a smaller box which leaves you more useable space in your trunk. I generally prefer sealed personally.
Alright, sealed sounds like the way to go. I was also considering wiring in series, but i dont really know THAT much about amps. I mean i understand all the specs, and i know how to set them up, but i dont know what brands are good anymore, i havent been trolling audio forums for a couple years... My budget is ~800 dollars, going up to 1000 i suppose. There's about 5 or 6 1000 dollar projects im about to start, and this will probably be the 1st. Thanks for the help so far!
For that money you can get a much better amp and if you are going to spend that much, stay the f away from power acoustick. Do it right the first time then forget about it. Even maybe consider this amp

1000 is more than enough to spend on the lowend. Theres a member with a HIGH quality setup listed for a eclipse titanium 12 For 150, and a zr1000. Great equipment for the price.
Items for You. If you need to know on something else let me know i still have a minor hookup if you have a pref on something

used to have a shop, where it was a used car lot in front, had free run of a 13 car bay, so we got a liscence in va. Mainly focused on rims and kits and stuff, did all of the other work on my other car (Supra tail swap, polishing, install, and fiberglass work) between us. We just have the accts still open with alot of the companies. Dont always get the best deal due to volume no longer being there but it beats the bay

Thanks for the unnecessary info. I have had a profile in the past and had no problem with bass response and the treble and bass adjustment really came in handy.

Alright, now another question. Where besides fleabay can i get a PAC adapter? im thinking about just getting a new head unit, seeing as how output to speakers will be better, and itll make sub install a tad easier.... I'll probably get a DEH-3700, because i had a 3500 a couple years ago and it was everything i wanted.... But yeah locating the adapter is a pain.
