Tweeter replacement
I just installed some Infinity Refrence 1011t's in my '03. They sound great. I had to turn the trebel to -2 on the stock non-bose system I have. They run around $60. They just fit behind the pillar trim. I used high-temp double-sided tape to hold them in. The tape works great.

help
i installed some tweeters in the a-pillar using the stock stereo and they only lasted about an hour then they died out...the factory tweets have a little plug that goes into another plug which runs the speaker wire...would that make any difference to splice b4 the plug or not? also is there anything i can do so that any other tweets i mite try n install dont crap out??? thanx...

Doesn't matter if you use the stock connectors or not. What tweeters did you use? Sounds like the tweeters are to be blamed nothing else, unless there was installation error.

PROBABLY because you have Bose, and it's not compatible.
The BOSE system runs at 2ohms, which is why your speakers blew.

Hot glue also works.

The bose system only runs at 2 ohms because of the speakers. That amps are made to run at 2 ohm stable as well, but adding 4 ohm speakers should only lessen the output, not cause them to blow. Unless there is another explanation for it? I'm pretty sure anyway that you can add a 4 ohm tweeter wired directly into it and be fine.

That's not sarcastic, it's a real question. You could be right. I haven't mastered loads and resistances yet.

Well the bose amps are actually stable to 1 ohm or close. The woofers usually test out near 2 ohm. If your adding a tweeter thats as low as 2 ohms your still fine, 2ohms + 2ohms wired in parallel = 1ohm. BUT hypothetically if you were to add a tweeter to any stereo, there shouldn't be a problem with it being added in because it won't affect the resistance that much because of the frequencies that it plays. Like when a woofer plays even if its rated at 4 ohms the actual may be as low as 3 ohms tested, the tweeter doesn't fluctuate as much from what i remember, so it will be a constant 4 ohms or whatever. Adding a tweeter can cause the AMP to blow if the resistance is too low, but the tweeter itself should still be alright.
shift, how did you connect them to the stock wires? They should be fine, was there any smell or popping noise right before they blew? If I were you, I would double check your connection and make sure you hooked them up correctly. Since you are only going 2 speakers, go to walmart and get what is called a T-tap, and just t-tap into the wires with male connectors. instead of using your plug.

For example a 4ohm speaker with a xover of 800hz, would see 400hz @8ohm... So essentially if the Bose system runs in 6 or 8ohm impedance it shows a 4ohm speaker half or essentially lower filter- so if the speaker has a certain Fs , and its shows a value too close to it, or below it(than it can effectively, comfortably reproduce) it will blow...

Good points there. Some things I overlooked.
