Okay guys and Gals, I have just finished installing a new Carputer, very easy and straight forward. I am running windows XP so that i can utilize all the different front ends for better control. It does have wifi so i can pull up to anyplace that has wifi and hit the net. There is jsut so much to tell about this that i just wont be able to fit it all on this page. But for anyone who wants one of these bad boys here is the link .

Here is a pic of the screen, my touch screen is on order and i hope to hae it in by sat. Using a standard TFT display dose not work well. I have the mother board and hard drive behine the bottom screen since there was a ton of room back there.

Old post revived but check out mp3car.com. I'm working on one, basically just got a stock radio trim and some plastic weld and mold the stock touchscreen bezel into the trim. 4th gen tho. Here's 2 links.

Pretty good demo of a carputer.
It's in spanish but you'll get the idea.

Just wondering, what's shutting down the system like? Because regular desktops and notebook computers require dikctimes to shut it down. What about the Carputer? When you turn off the ignition, are you basically crashing Windows XP down manually? Or, do you have to park, hit shut down, and wait the dikctime? Very curious...

Most likely windows on a carputer would be like xp professional and there won't be a bunch of apps like a home or work computer. It's like when you got a brand new computer it booted up pretty quick. Some people have gotten there boot times to 15 secs. Also you are really just starting it up from hibernation alot of times. Most of the dc power supplies for carputers will manually shut off the computer after a set time if windows hangs or something so your battery won't drain. Just go to mp3car.com forums and read the stickies there, there is a bunch of good info that sucks you in.
27 secs startup and shutdown video, this is pretty fast. He is booting from a flash drive. Full thread
