Replacing Bose Speakers, sub...need some suggestions.

I'd like to replace the component speakers, rear doors speakers, and the sub in my Bose system, but I want to keep the Bose head unit for a factory look. In general, I'm just trying to get better overall sound quality with more punchy mids and bass. I don't need to make my neighbor's windows rattle, but I want a little more than the Bose system is putting out.

Anyone have all the tech specs on the Bose HU, amp, and factory speakers/sub? Obviously I need this info to choose better speakers. Also taking suggestions on speaker setups.

I'm thinkin to keep it at $500 or less. I'm not lookin' for top of the line components, just an upgrade that I'll be able to appreciate over the stock Bose.

Well thats why I was asking about the Bose amp specs. I was wondering if I could just replace the speakers and maybe worry about the sub later on if the amp isn't strong enough to power an aftermarket sub.

i'm not sure but as of my understandings bose head units put a 1 ohm load out..unless it's the speakers that need a 1 ohm load.. ..your speakers are only as good as the signal it recieves....and i doubt the bose unit gives a good signal..but if you want speakers that dont need to be amplified much then you should possibly go with a kenwood or something...or you can maybe get away with a infinity...if you are gonna use an amp then check out cdt's,mbquart,rainbow's,ID's..and make sure to not go cheap with the amp...with that 500 budget youre not getting much, maybe speakers and a low end amp.

Definately consider diamond comps up front and a mid in the rear, a solid 4 channel diamond amp should put you right in the range.

I was gonna ask the same question...I want a nice upgrade from the stock BOSE and keep the head unit factory....But what if I change the head unit in the future to a flip out Kenwood touch screen, will that have any effect on the slight upgrade of the speakers? Or should I just wait to upgrade the whole system when I get the touch screen??

Thanks

i change the speakers on a 2001 maxima
try alpine/pioneer/and infinty after 5 hours of work we when back to factory and the sound was better
most speaker are 4 ohms
the hissan bose comes with 1.5 ohms speakers that means that if you install 3 ohms speaker you lose half of your volume

"Speaking of speakers" ... *Don* ... to get some decent plug and play speakers as far as the same size of stock ( no trust with local installers ) ... is $500 good enuf for decent Rainbows? I suppose my package should include the tweeters, front doors n rears ..amp. could you gimme a breakdown? wanna start savin up for em ... ALSO... i still have the Bose 8" installed while 2 10" Kicker CompVR are pushing enough to my liking. I should just get rid of the 8" dontcha think?

Yes you certainly could get the Rainbows or many other choices within that range that would tickle your ears a bit, but you would also need an amp to power em.

you can do better, but if you already have the stuff throw it in, anything is better than stock especially in the G Twinkie

The bose system utilizes 4ohm tweeters for the front components so you can just swap in another set of tweeters and keep the bose mids. This is a great way to improve the sound without spending much money at all.
Cost you $100 for a really good set of tweeters, much less for a set that would definitely be better than stock.

For a sub if the 2001 system also utilizes an 8" subwoofer in the rear deck you could look into an 8" ascendant audio assasin subwoofer ($45) and then a refurb DEI 250D (150x1@4ohm) ($45)

The bose tweeter may be 4 ohm however 4 ohms is relative to the amount of power/sound going through the driver. The resistance does not stay linear. I'm assuming on a load the tweeter would drop down to 2 ohms at somepoint. The point being that ALOT of tweeters are atually higher resistance than what they are rated at. This is so that when they do play and the resistance changes it does not affect the resistance of the overall package.

Anyways as far as the warranty stuff ecko, most companies have a minimum of 1 year warranties and do similar to whatever maxxonic does, so thats nothing special.

That may well be true and i'm not too technically minded but a good number of maxima owners have replaced their OEM tweeters with new 4ohm tweeters with great results

Any suggestions on good tweaters to use to replace the stock. In the past poeple have said Polk 3500, but they are not made anymore.

Anyone use Infinity Reference 1011t 1 inch tweaters?

Thanks for the suggestions. The infinity tweaters cost around $60, but I noticed the Kicker ss tweaters are around $300!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do they sound that much better to justify the cost?
