Downloading music...

They're different type of programs.. Peer Guardian doesn't 'hide' your IP, instead it utilizes a database of IPs and ranges to block, otherwise known to belong to mal/ad/spyware, riaa, mpcc, etc. Hide IP uses proxies so instead of connecting directly to the servers, it goes through another one first.

If you really want to be slick, use a monthly subscription based music service to download lots of stuff, then find a way to convert the DRM files into regular MP3s. The quality of the material and the speed of the download is far better than Kazaa or torrents. Converting it is tedious, but doable.

IRC first, and then torrents for me. i tried most of the torrent programs when they first came out. azureus was the best by far.

Torrents work great for large stuff, so does eMule. For rare stuff soulseek cannot be beaten. Bearshare lite and Limewire rock. You can download limewire pro through limewire, or at least you could. GNUcleus works from time to time. Most of it is preference, but stay away from the full versions. They tend to be loaded with spyware and crap.

unless i missed something in the last few weeks, that's not a good idea. if you're thinking about uncompressing, and then re-compressing, you'd be getting about 25% of the original quality (if that).

Need music, I have about 25,000 songs for about 120 gigs of full albums and such.... all 128+ If you need something let me know. (:
I have access to about "118 years, 31 weeks, 2 days and 7 hours (81.77 TB) of music in 14,880,601 tracks and 2,082,639 albums" but no place to store it since my 120 gig for music is full, maybe with a few donations for a larger HD, could get an FTP going ... (;
