Generally, people will tell you to run from it like the plague, but really if you're just buying it for your girl it'll be perfect.

I generally like to treat a significant other WELL, so I wouldn't give her a POS, even though it may be cheap and "be fine for her needs" and have all the features.

So, whoever it's for, don't buy Sony.

I installed a Sony CDX GT-300 in my '02 SE. Other than the fact that it has way to many sound enhancing and digital enhancing features, I am very pleased with it. It's powering Infinity 6012i's in the front and 6002i's in the rear. Plays MP3's, has 2 RCA outs (rear is sub-woofer switchable with sub-woofer volume control) and has the aux input on the front. I got this one from Crutchfield for $149.

The one your looking at appears to be the $89 Walmart Sony GT-10W which is the same unit as the CDX GT-100 just has green controls instead of red. I installed that same unit in my neighbors '87 300ZX and he couldn't be any happier.

I am also running a 1200W Sony amp to my 10" Kicker Comp and am pleased with that as well. I went the budget route and am very pleased with the outcome.

If you are happy with the product that is what really matters, because you are the user.

My dad was trying to tell me that sony audio stuff was really good when I was looking around for a system. He also told me that my car didn't have spark plugs.....Maybe it's perspective...uhh.

Well he knew my car wasn't diesel, but he insisted that I didn't need to change my spark plugs since my car didn't have any because it had injectors. Not sure of the reasoning behind his statement, but after a while of arguing and pointing them out to him and showing him the manual for the car, he agreed that it had spark plugs.

At least he's willing to admit that he was wrong.

Sony makes great TVs, but their home speakers and car stuff suck. An alpine, pioneer or eclipse would be better and hold up better against wear. Everyone I know who had a sony has had problems with it. Whether it be that the buttons do the complete opposite of what it is supposed to, or it not reading commercial CD's.

My $.02

I had an older Sony CD deck in my Accord from 1998. It ran fine, nothing broke, great radio reception, etc. Personally, I don't think there is anything wrong with Sonys, but there is nothing special about them either. I liked the D-Bass feature, it produced a lot of bloated bass (hehe).

With all that said and done, I installed an Alpine in my Maxima.

if its for your girl, and she just wants an a/m radio, it should be fine. i had an old sony, it worked fine until the car was in a front end collision (gf was driving), then it started to act up. but that was expected. (thats how i got my maxima!)

the end

I've installed tons of Sony radios... they rarely ever come back. Sound Quality..eh..you get what you pay for, it's definately not an Eclipse. I think she'll like it as long as she isn't really into SQ. BTW, the radios that do tend to come back: JVC by far. We rarely ever get any returns on Eclipse decks aaaand..kenwoods IMO suck, I've had a few come back.

I have had plenty of experience with Sony and some of their stuff is fine others are not. Honestly the best thing to do if you're really looking to go Sony is to search google for reviews on that deck. I had a old Sony deck that had all kinds of trouble playing CDs. I bought a new higher-end Sony MP3 Cd player and it's perfect. No problems ever. I had a 1000w Sony Xplod amp and 2 12" Sony Xplod subs and I loved them. No trouble at all and they were nice. I sold the amp and subs with my old car but I am still blasting the hell out of that mp3 player. Sony gives some people a lot of trouble and I really thing it depends on the actual product so go and look at reviews before you buy it. That goes for any deck. Later.

BTW: As far as catching fire. My rockford amp caught fire and some people think they are a good company. I'm never buying rockford again.

Personally, I believe in three brands of headunits, first and foremost Kenwood, as they offer the best entry level SQ at the lowest price, followed by Eclipse as they now have low-priced entry units that offer comparable SQ to Kenwood units offering the same on-paper specs, but still a little higher priced. Although, a lot of the motorized face Kenwood model numbers have some claims of pinched connection wires, which is where I'd take an Eclipse over a Kenwood. Finally, Pioneer, which offers solid performance and durability, slightly prone to scratching, but for a CD player, they seem to allow more vibration before having issues. Our bucket truck has had both a kenwood and a pioneer in it, and the $90 pioneer holds up to the constant, 1500 rpm PTO vibration without a problem, but the antenna plug would vibrate out of the back of the Kenwood after awhile.

For entry-level range, $50-$200, I'd order my 3 favorites Kenwood, Eclipse, Pioneer. I've not heard any high end pioneer headunits with a comparable performance speakers and/or amps, so I can't rate them accurately, but I'd order the high end headunits by Eclipse, Kenwood, Pioneer.

You'd have to PAY me to take an alpine, sony, or JVC headunit, and you could give me a panasonic, but dont expect me to pay for it.

Thats just my opinion from observation and experience, and I don't see systems running $500+ components and $500+ each subs in person, these are just middle of the road components and systems, your results may vary with speaker/amp choices if you go that route.

Yea but im assuming you didnt have it happen multiple times, as well as being able to name 7 people with the same issue on varying models and installers. I dismissed the first as a fluke, but as the evidence piles i would have to be retarded to ignore it.
