I went to the tent sale/ car show this weekend at Crutchfield to get new speakers for my rear deck. Got the 6.5s with the bracket because they didn't have the 6.75s in the outlet. Took me about ten minutes to get my rear seat out(haven't done it in five years) and then the fun began. I had to use my dremal tool to remove the tabs off of the brackets, because of the recessed speaker locations the tabs prevented them from flushing with the rear deck. After that I spent an hour trying to get the existing holes to work, line up one hole and the other three holes would be covered by the speaker. So about two hours on an easy plus installation.
So don't try to put 6.5s in your 3rd generation with their adapter unless you wan't to drill new holes anyway. However when I went back to talk to them yesterday they got a set of 6.75s from the warehouse and will let me trade the 6.5s for those. CS
