system problem

i was playing my system loud the other day and my sub started to cut in and out. so i turned it down and it plays at low volume. Then i was driving at night and turned it up a little and all my lights inside where dimming like crazy, so i got a yellow top battery and have the same problem.....i think its my alternator? any other opinions

Skip the capacitor, have your alternator tested, and do the BIG 3. If your alternator checks out you may have some other type of electrical short somewhere. Make sure all your grounds are good and if not clean them up. Check your amp wiring as well.

arm****! get back in ct lol. Check the sub with a multimeter make sure it reads the correct ohm, i highly doubt its the alternator. Check the voltage of the battery see if its overcharging. Do the lights dimm without the system on ? Does it seem like there is a lack of bass coming from the sub at higher volumes before it starts to cut out ?

i'm assuming it's the alternator as well...since the problem seem to be gradually getting worse. have the alternator check out to see if it's putting out sufficient voltage.

Sounds like it could be an alternator issue. I'd have that checked out by an auto parts store or just stop in to Soundwaves of St.Augustine and ask them if they could take a peek at the electrical system.

More importantly...Amperage.

get that checked out as quickly as possible. 4th gens had a recall for their alternator. i believe there have been cases of the alternator catching fire and basically the whole car went with it. probably worth goin to the stealership for...

I have the same dimming problem... except recently its gotten worse. I'll be stopped or rolling very slowly and all the electronics in the car will turn off and back on (radar detector and deck reset themselves). This happens randomly... on some drives not at all, on some it will happen 1 or 2 times. Do you think this is the alternator as well or a short somewhere in my system?

Ya I got a problem to. I have a 200w amp for my front speakers, and a 400 w amp for my sub. Its driving two MTX Roadthunder rt10-04s 200wRMS per sub. my interior lights are dimming..WHY? There are people here who have way more power than that and their lights inside are just barely dimming. Also are power dips hard on the good ol HIDs?
