I don't have my comps yet but I will be wiring the max this weekend. The problem is I'm not sure where I want the crossovers to be. If in the doors less speaker wire would be required, but that would not accomidate going active in the future nearly as well as moutning them next to the amp in the trunk and running two wires for the mid and tweet to each side. any other advantages or disadvantages or input on this?

do you have bose? what I did in my 2k3 max was unmount the bose amp, make a board that is about the same size....mount it in the oem screw holes. Then I mounted the crossovers to that board.

As far as future potential..definately in the trunk somewhere like Jeff said.

 

If you have bose, i was able to modify the place where the bose amp would sit, and i was able to fit the crossover in there and mount it down... This is on the outside of the weather shield so you dont really have to worry about it getting wet.

 

But you have a 4th gen...different setup in the door. In both 4th and 5th gens theres plenty of space further back where theres a huge opening. Although for potentially going active later trunk would be easiest.

will i run into any noise problems running the speaker wire through the smae path as the power? i know this is a no-no with the rca's but i wasnt sure if that goes for speaker wire as well.....

 

No you wont. AC cant induce noise into DC. Its also Not a no-no with RCAs either...thats a myth.

hmm ok i never new that wasnt true. well with that out of the way, one more noob wiring question: with 2 amps should i go to 1 ground or 2 separate grounding points? i have heard both sides of this one and want to answer it once and for all. thanks

 

why not just get a bi-amp kit? 1 power,1 ground, power distro, and leads for 2 amps

 

cause i already have all the stuff and got the new kit just recently. I'm really only running one of the amps most of the time but i figured i could at least leave the other ground in so that i could use both if i wanted to at any time. but running two amps isnt really a priority, just wondering if i should make a new ground or connect it with the old one.. which will it be?

 

One ground, multiples could cause loops.

my big *** Bouston Acoustics crossovers had to be mounted under my seats.

 

Crossovers? 100% active & built into the HU... Bi-amping the front stage for a tri-amp setup.. Eventually I'll get around to putting some 4" mids or 8" midbass to the existing 6.5+tweet setup......
