Mtx T8512 Jlw6 Or Kicker Sl7???
I own two S12L5's solobarics. People ask me if I am running two 15's and I am not powering them to capacity. They already outworked one 2400 watt amp. I have them on a digital 2000 watt cheap Lanzar class d amp for the moment because I am workin on the turbo and my 2400 watt ran out at the wrong time. I hooked them up to my friends JBL 1000.1 amp and they shook my house literally (three picture frames in my room on the second floor fell off my dresser and they weren't even near the edge). I am aiming at a planet audio amp that supplies around 1800 true watts rms. not claimed. The L7's can provide a solid bass response IMO and can be used as both SPL or SQ depending if you go sealed or ported (I am sealed and cannot wait to go ported for more bass) Hope this helps a little.

Been looking to get a JL 12w6v2 for quite some time now. Think it is a great sounding sub in a sealed box.
Any reason the JL's dont get much recognition around here? I have enjoyed what I have heard.
Not to threadjack, but what other SQ options in this price range would be a better bet? I've been seeing the JL's around $300.

The W6v2 is a great sounding sub IMO. I can't wait to put my Fi Q up against an MX. I need to get my grubby little hands on a pair for a week or so.
To the OP. Did you ever tell us what your price range is?

I personally am a JL person... had 2 12w0's, 2 12w1's, 1 10w3v2, 1 12w6v2, and now have a 10w7. all thse ive tried in both ported and sealed. my personal opinion is that Jl subs sound better in ported boxes made to their spec, and are made to be pretty loud for the price. not much of a sq sub, but very good quality and like said earlier, they can take a beating. with the exception of the w7, which I am actually pretty impressed by the sound quality as well as how loud it is. as far as kickers or mtx... mtx was ok, pretty loud for the price, but jl was better... ive had the 7512 and 9512... and kicker... well, theyre decently loud, sq is terrible, and the product quality is terrible. ive had a 15" and it was terrible. and it blew pretty easily. doesnt take a beating at all..
I've had several Kicker subwoofers (old Kicker Free-Airs, S12C & S12D Solobarics, and L7's) and only one I had problems with. The issue was not with the sub, it was due to the enclosure not being totally sealed. I do not consider Kicker subs to be terrible.
They 12W6v2 is considered to be more of an SQ sub...... even more so than the W7.

ive actually had better sq with the w7.. since I have had both...and also the w6v2 was not as loud as the 10w7.. idk maybe just my experience with them.. but ive tried many JL's in different setups with those results. as for kicker.. theyre not terrible I suppose.. they just dont take a beating.. as well as their amps.. If the rms is 200w then it wont handle more than 200w.. thats what ive learned..
so many other choices out there...but they are not mainstream brands. SQ can be had by building a proper box and proper tuning. I can make Kicker subs sound great, and JL's subs to sound like crap. it's all in the install...and installer.

True Story.. I'm currently reading up on how to build a custom enclosure.. I'm really feeling setups like these:

Looks more possible for me to pull off (1st timer here)

Really love this clean setup here:

now on to some how to's with pics
they are all nice...Gordon's setup (the last link) is currently being redone because that baffle cuts out a decent amount of bass. I think Don did some of that install with the 2nd link...stop by Jersey and keep him company.

Not an MTX fan, and I was looking into the Eclipse 7200 or Alpine type R. Ahhh decisions.
