Replacing front door speakers on 2003 Max

I blew my right front door speaker today so will be needing to replace it. This is on a non-Bose system. Few questions.

1. I will be replacing it with aftermarket speakers. Does it make sense to replace just the one speaker or do both fronts need to be replaced?

2. What would be a good replacement? I'm not looking for anythign fancy. Just something simple. So far I'm leaning towards the Polk db650. Is this a decent enuff model? Any recommendations? Keep in mind everything is stock.

3. Does the door panel need to be removed to swap out the speakers? Or can just the grille be popped out? Are there any how-to instructions available specific to 5th Gen Maximas on front door speaker replacement?

4. To confirm, the size is 6.5", right?

Please throw in your input on the questions and anything else on this topic.

Thanks

Both fronts should be replaced. Whats good enough depends all on what you want and your budget. The whole door panel needs to be removed, and there are some how-to's floating around somewhere. Yep, theyre 6.5".

Personally Id buy a set of components and replace your entire front setup rather than just the mids. In which case, a set of Rainbow SLC's arent much more than the Polk db components.

Thanks for the response. What do you mean by entire front setup? What else is there in the front?

The tweeters in the a-pillar, if your car came with them. Some non-Bose did, some didn't. If not, you can buy the pillars themselves for like 30 bucks a piece and run components instead of coaxials.

Thanks again, is the stock HU capable of pushing component speakers?

Not really, but as long as you dont crank it to distort em, you can wait and upgrade in stages if its a money issue.

I just got done downgrading. I had a Pioneer DEH-6500 HU, two Audiobahn Alum 12Qs and a JBL BP 1200.1 powering them. I went back to stock because I needed the trunk space, plus I was kind of over that phase and it was overkill anyway. Now I would be happy w/just the basics. Money is not an issue per say. I'm just looking for something that will work decent and match up w/the stock HU.

The problem is that the output from the stock head unit completely sucks. Id stick with the Pioneer 6500, because even on the stock speakers, an aftermarket head unit will noticeably increase your sound quality.

Unfortunately I sold everything. I've found a really good price on the db650s though. http://www.cardomain.com/item/POLDB650

yeah so my front left speaker is pretty much blown, rattles and crap which is very annoying... ima head over to this Audio spot in my town that i heard does a great job on everything and is pretty fair on the pricing. i have my mind set on gettin 2 new speakers but just might get an aftermarket deck along with it... if i play my cards right, i can probably find the same deck on ebay for cheaper.
Note to all... Be careful on ebay, make sure they have the wire harness included in the package ur bidding on also the little metal thing around the deck its ' self... cuz that will run you extra...
I plan on going 3 way speakers for the front right now, then when my budget expands fix tha back.. Update will be given soon...
