Why did you buy it, then ask if it were possible to bypass it?

Is the HU turning on? Are you sure the remote turn on is hooked up correctly?

The HU turns on, finds radio stations, plays CDs as well as my iPod but nothing is making it to the speakers. I bought it because I didn't really know what I needed and when I posted and asked I got no response. I'll take pictures when I get home this evening, maybe there's a flaw in my wiring.

Possibly wiring. All the information is in the stickies though, which is likely why no one responded.

Well I took some pictures and looked at both the harness book and the HU book and everything seems to be connected right. I seem to be having the same problem that laub did earlier on in the thread. I have aim and msn so if anyone wants go contact me there go ahead.

Here are some pictures.

Here's the black, blue and orange that I don't know what to do with. I'm assuming I need to ground the black wire.

Here's the black/white and a blue/white that I don't know what to do with.

I don't believe I need to use any of these wires, do I?

All is good, my HU is installed and sounds great. Nismos was kind enough to help me out and point out what I needed to do.

EDIT- If you guys have a whine with BOSE, its the amps, that was my problem, very simple to bypass. A 16 yr old can do it.

On the third gen.
Unplug the WHOLE Speaker, then cut off the plug that is in the door..
Tape off/cover up the two big wires.
Then for the small two.
Drill a hole in the speaker housing.
Pushed the wires through.
Connect these two smaller ones to the speaker wires.
White/whatever is positive. Black/whatever is negative.
Worked for me, no whines.

Sorry if this has been asked. I have an 01 maxima with Bose and I can't figure out the wiring for my aftermarket stereo. I have looked at diagrams but none are clear enough. Can anyone post the colors/what they are for? Like yellow/battery

It has been posted - read the stickies. You shouldn't need the wire colors. Just get the right harness and match the colors. For an aftermarket radio to Bose system, you need Metra 70-7551.

Well I was trying to wire it in without buying a wire harness or adapter. Is that possible?

It's possible, but extremely stupid, especially for someone who does not know what they are doing. You absolutely need an antenna adapter harness, and I VERY strongly suggest you just use the Metra harness aforementioned as well. The hassle and potential problems you could cause are not worth the $9 you'd be saving.

Well Is there any way someone could tell me how to wire it without the harness. Will I need the antenna adapter even if I dnt want the radio?

The information is out there somewhere, but I'm definitely not going to search for it for you.

No, if you don't want the radio, then I suppose you don't need the antenna adapter.

Ok well thanks for your help! I been looking for the info but all I can find is diagrams of the wires inside the plastic housing not the wire colors. If anyone can find a color diagram I would appreciate it.

I don't know why I keep trying with you, but for the last time - It's not worth it. Just get a harness.

You're also going to have to splice in RCA's to maintain usage of the Bose system.

Have your idiot friend purchase a reverse harness and fix it, then use the proper harness.

I hate to bring up an issue that's been discussed already (and I've read ALL the posts and searched extensively), but I want to get this right before I lift a screw driver.

I've got a new Pioneer HU and a brand new Metra 70-7551. Trying to replace my Bose HU in my 4th gen (97).

1) From my understanding both ground wires on the Metra and the ground from the HU harness all go to chassis ground, correct?

2) Pioneer's blue/white "System Remote Control" wire turns on the Bose amps so that wires to the blue/white on the Metra correct?

3) Metra's blue wire for Power Antenna - goes to what? Does it get wired into the same Pioneer blue/white remote wire? From searching, it seems there are issues with the antenna going up every time the HU is powered up regardless of source.

4) I have not gotten the Antenna adapter yet, but I guess I need to in order to get a decent radio signal right?

5) This Pioneer has DVD capabilities and has a purple/white wire that needs to get wired into the "Reverse-Gear Signal Input". I haven't searched for this wire yet - can somebody speed this up and tell me where I can find it within my 4th gen?

6) The Pioneer also has a green parking brake wire which I'm assuming I can find easily at the parking brake. I'm assuming the parking brake has a black (or black stripe) for ground so use the other wire for positive.

I've installed radios before and I want to get all my ducks in a row before I even start so I'm not constantly running in and out of my car doing searches for problems online. Thanks for any help.

Hi,
I'm looking for a reputable place to have my (6th gen - 2005)Bose 6- disc cd changer repaired. Optimally I'd like to find a place that might sell one on 'exchange' so that I can do the R&R job all-at-once. Otherwise, just a reputable, fairly-priced repair shop would be great...
Thanks for any and all help...

Kurt

I got a question. I recently replaced my Bose HU with a 7" Touchscreen DVD/GPS... HU using the 70-7550 Harness (because my previous Maxima didn't have a Bose system. so I was unaware of this issue) anyways. I just ordered the METRA 70-7551 so my question is Where do those 4 RCAs go ?
11-18 RCA Output? (11,12,17,18?)

why not
There was a thread about it here somewhere about putting speakers on the rear doors (like most newer model cars)
but that seems like too much work for me.

You could throw some speakers in the doors, totally your call. It's not actually all that hard.

Swap out 94 HU with a 95 HU

My 94 HU just died...I noticed quite a few 95 HU's on eBay and want to know if I can swap a 95 for my dead one. They look the same but I know that looks can be deceiving in stereo land!

Thanks for the help and advice.

im changing the HU on my 03 GLE.
I currently have the stock Bose set up. I want to get the Kenwood KDC-x493.
ive been reading alot the last couple of days but just to clarify, i need the Metra 7551 wiring harness separate to the antenna and dash kit supplied by Crutchfield ( im getting the HU from them and taking everything to a place near my house, charges $50 for installation)

is that all i need to make the amp and sub work?

The system replacment

Sorry for the Noob question. I am just not familiar with anything concerning the electronic is the Infiniti i30 1996 car that i recently bought.

I really want to replace the CD/RADIO system with a nice Sony Or Pioneer one.

Can some one please help me and guide me what can i buy. What do i need to look for in the New system. Would It harm the speakers. Would it work perfectly with the surround system in the car? Is there anything special i need to know regarding the installation (any frequency changes?)

Thanks

I know all the specifics were covered to replace the Bose HU but, I was just curious if it makes a difference with installation if you have the factory nav, thanks. I would like a new hu and to put my subs in that I have lying around but if it's too much of a PITA, I'll just sell the subs...

Factory NAV is completely different. It interfaces with the HVAC. You're better off keeping the factory NAV and just adding subs.
