Eclipse AUX-in

Anybody know if the Aux-in for the Eclipse CD7100 is any good? I know it won't sound as good as just using the CD player, but if I get a Cowon player and dump a bunch of songs in WAV format and hook it up to the Eclipse, will it sound almost as good as cd player being the source? Thanks.

IIRC, it should sound good because the songs will still be processed by the HU's DAC. You will get a very nice signal.

I'm not trying to doubt you Parag, but how would it still be going thru the HU's DAC if the AUX player has its own decoder and s/n ratio?

Not sure this was debated before, and I have no clue the answer bcause I don't own the deck anymore and didn't care at the time lol.

That is why I said IF.

Yea I think I'm gonna get an auxiliary player. Where is the input on the CD7100, in the back? What type of cable do I need to connect it? I was thinking about getting this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16855228017 Anyone ever own a Cowon player?

They don't play wav files true, you don't have to use Itunes though. I was reluctant at first myself, but they are not crap.

HOW do you know the COWON players are going to be outputing the BEST POSSIBLE SOUND? And you're going to be outputting through the headphone jack into the AUX IN. I think an IPOD with songs ripped from a CD on the highest setting connected to an ipod cable > cowon with the best possible .wav file outputing through a headphone jack to the eclipse AUX in.

Agreed, plus you should be able to get a 160gig ipod and rip songs at a super high bit rate.

I never said that they would be outputing the best possible sound. An mp3 will never sound better than the original WAV, no matter what connection/bitrate/equipment you're using.

BUT that IS your goal correct? To get the BEST POSSIBLE SOUND out of your car's stereo through a Portable Music Player?

yes, but that can't be done if you're listening to mp3s

plus, the Cowon has aux in/aux out, so I don't think I'll need to use the headphone jack at all

I am an ECLIPSE fanatic and i swear by them
If you hook the RCA input to anything it will sound good but in the function menu there is an AUX imput sensetivity menu
Turn it up
three settings, off, low, hi
hi is a little much but the low makes the sound perfect. Use the Harmonizer to regain the sound quality that is lost and it will sound perfect. I run a CD5000 and i used to work for Circuit City when we first got eclipse so i had to learn all about them.
If you want a direct connect for sirius i have one for 40 shipped
Let me know

Seriosly get an I-pod. you won't need the Cd's in your car anymore. convert all of your WAV and Mp3's to AAC and be done with it. Do you know how many songs you can have without switching CD's?

I-pods = mass-produced crap. I'm an audiophile with an Audison amp and DLS Iridiums!!!

do you want a cookie?

Seriously I used to hate ipods too but they have come a long way and it's just so much more convenient using them. I must say the sound quality I get using the IPOD ADAPTER is VERY good on the CD rips that I did in iTunes. I would def. give it a TRY. If not..since it's mass produced crap you can always sell it to the next guy for almost the same price

no I don't need a cookie. But since I invested a lot of money in all this wonderful equipment, I owe it to feed it top-quality source media, meaning original WAV files. Why buy hi-end products if you're gonna then go half-*** with less than hi-end music files? I would compare that to buying a Ferrari and then filling it up with regular 87-octane gasoline. It's doing a disservice to yourself and your set-up. The great Don (who did my install) would agree with me.

Dunno about all that, I can almost gaurantee MP3's ripped at 320kbps will net you no discernable difference in sound quality, at least that any of our ears will notice.

while I agree that mp3s have come a LOOOONNG way since the days of Napster/Kazaa, they will never equal the fidelity of the original WAV. It's impossible. And how did you come up with 256, just an arbitrary number? I can understand if someone with a crappy setup listens to mp3s--the loss in information wouldn't be as noticeable. But if you're buying hi-end equipment from Don, I think it's a shame to not feed it the original WAV files it deserves
