Need more headroom

Hey guys.....I've been running an Audison LRx 2.9 for almost a year. It puts out 260 watts RMS per channel--using it to power my DLS 6.5" Iridium 3-ways. I'd like to have more headroom. Anyone know of a high-power used 2-channel amp for sale? Thanks.

if possible yeah. Cause to get my system to play where I want it, I have to crank my Eclipse to between 60-65 volume level (out of 80). I want to only have to crank it up to between 35-40. Since the Eclipse is 8V preout, I only have the gain on the amp at 50%

Why? Your headunit isn't clipping at that volume (for reference my eclipse had to be turned up beyond 70 to get loud when I had it). The gains are probably set somewhat low on the amp too.

260 per side is quite a bit. i don't even have that much power going to my germaniums. granted my amp can do 320 x 2...but even so i "only" have it tuned to about 200 watts to each side. it gets damn loud at volume 50 on my CD5100. i usually listen to between 30-40.

I have 150w per side on mine, gains ~45%, and it gets decent loud. Maybe you should invest in some deadning?

actually now that i think of it a single volume step on an Alpine is like 10 on an Eclipse, so what you're experiencing is probably normal.

crank ur gain up. if u want more power

i dont see the purpose of a new amp when u have this one only at half tilt

yea i'll try that....I just thought that with 8V pre-outs from the deck, you shouldn't turn up the gain that high. You think I can turn up the gain to 75% without distortion?

75% should be fine, and the HU won't send a clipped signal probably up until peak volume.

Just be a little cautious with your volume setting.

Also remember 60 is only a bit past half.

0-50 (or so) is in increments of 2, after that is increment of 1. So 0-50 is only 25 steps 50-80 is 30 steps.

Not to mention you won't get 8V with music anyway, so you can't just base it off that...

Most likely you will be getting 2-3V with music...
