New Seas sessyness...

Some of you audio postwhores may remember me from a while back, but I heven't been on here for a while. My work got some retartedazz intrawebz filter, and - anyway...

I finally got to work on my Maxima again; figured since I'm leaving for the ARMY in a few weeks I should get everything out of my garage before I go.

The entire car was re-wired with 14ga. speaker, and 0ga. pwr/gnd wire. I went ahead and wired it for 3-way front + sub, although I will go 2-way for a while until i get up the nerve/time to sling mids into my A-pillars...

Specs are listed in my sig for anyone that cares, and as good as it sounds, I think it will be staying that way for a while. The Alpine 9887 is a kick-*** HU, and I still to this day love the Eclipse XA-series amps that I have feeding everything. And; yes, I know I still have trim work to do for the HU. The stock Nissan side brackets are all bent to hell from the previous owner, so I had to use the Alpine cage to mount the HU. The bent Nissan brackets cause the trim to sit crooked, but it's not as bad as it looks in the pic...

Old and new as far as front mid-bass goes. The DLS Iridium 6.5's(right) were ok, but they were just too "warm" for me, and I could not EQ that out of them no matter how much I tried. They also would not go as loud as I needed them to. The Seas seem to fit the bill much better, although I have only had them in for a few few hours.

You can also see how I had the DLS's mounted in there to the stock Nissan plastic BLOSE spacers - not exactly rigid if you ask me but they did the job. I made 2 set of 3/4" MDF rings and glued them together to make 1 set of 1.5" spacers. The Seas CD18's are ALOT deeper than the DLS's and I was worried that they might not fit.

Tweeters are Seas Neo's as you can see above the Mids in the doors, next to the door handle...

I also threw the Ensolite on the front doors that I bought over a year ago from someone over on DIYMA, and it seems to have made a noticable difference. They still are not fully deadened, but seem to be notably quieter when driving.

I took everything out of the trunk, and globbed-on some rubberized-bedliner. This stuff is now about 3/8" thick in most places, and has muffled out most of the rattles I had going on back there. I also put expanding-foam(15 CANS!) between the outside of the quarterpanels and the inside of the trunk, which seems to have gotten rid of alot of road noise and may have made the bass "snappier" - could also be placebo.

As far as low-end goes, this is what I had...

...which, might I add, is one sexy-*** sub. But one 12 is not enough for me - as I have come to realize- and I must have 2. So I put my 2 Earthquake 12"s back in that i had before I got the TC2000. The DBX-12's look TC-designed/made, but I have no idea. They do sound good though, as they should for as much time as I have in the enclosure. Obviously, these pictures were taken before the box was completed...

I also picked up these RCA's from Jake's Music Factory - they are extremely well made IMHO. I have only encountered one issue; as they are not made for the automotive enviornment, the stickers that identify L/R may come off with excessive heat/moisture. I had one red sticker come off, but that is it. As far as the quality of the actual wires goes, top notch...

And, some shots of the trunk as it sits now. This is hopefully how it will stay until I make a trim plate to go over the amps. Once that is done, all you will be able to see are the glowing "ELIPSE" logos and the sub box from the glue light above...

I know the light output sucks in the pic, but it is alot better if you are actually standing there looking at it. Below are some pics of the car just to give you an idea of what the whole package looks like. And yes *****es, I know it needs a drop. Not a bad lookin' car for 186,598 miles!

3rd post...

Its not so much that the Irid's wouldn't get super loud, but they had a "warm" sound to them that I didn't like and possibly perceived as being muddy or muffled. I got tired of playing around w/ EQ and the Seas were an awsome deal. Plus, why not go w/ 7"s if you can???

Damn str8. They seem to be able to take as much as I can throw at them - and they get looooooooow... I should have kept my Eclpise mono amp, but I sold it. All I have now is my XA4000 giving them about 450w rms each - figure if I had twich that much, I'd be about there - but them being ported they use the power well. Still hurts my ears though. I also have no rear-fill, so I gets da mad db'z through my back dash...

This thing really sounds good now, and I think I am finally happy with the way it turned out. No one area is really lacking, even though I still have some tuning to do as expected. The bass is extremely punchy, so I'd say all the time I spent designing the box was worth it. I have to take it back out to spray do some finishing touches, then I just have to trim the trunk out and I'm done wiuth this biotch.

Yeah, well - my doors are not completely deadened, and IMHO the 7"s are more than they want right now. Wonder if I could get 10"s in there...

10s sound awsome but I'm leaving it be until I get back from basic. The Seas set goes well together, although the CD18's are a little bright until they get loosened up a bit. The Neos are perfect though - crossed over @3.5k/12cb they don't miss a beat even with the loud **** cranked.

Do you have any pictures of the expanding foam? That stuff can really go wild and deform you car.

yeah you can mess up your car if you dont go slow. you just have to take your time and let some dry and do some more. it takes a while to fully expand so you just to have to be patient.

EDIT: I'll try and get some pics up Thursday.
