That holds true for 00-01 as well.

Isn't it a pita to get back behind the cluster just to run the VSS?? Technically.. you don't need it connected.. the GPS will just be like 100-200ft off eh? just like a garmin or any other standalone right? lol

pretty much yes. No its not too bad to get the cluster out, just take your time

If you have a built in nav unit, you might as well take advantage of it and run the wire

Hmm, I thought I had found it (in the PDF) but I'm unsure of which harness its actually in. There are 5 that plug into that central computer, and only one of those has enough pins (it has 32) from the PDF in the sticky, but, when I get to pin 26, its not green as the PDF suggests (and yes, I counted it correctly). Can anyone tell me where the harness is which the sticky is referring to?

Is the guage cluster the only point of tapping into this wire? If so GPS can stay the way it is.

Like stated above, the GPS does run fine. Just want to make sure it will not cause harm to the new head unit!

Thanks everyone for there help!

There's probably an ECU pin that you can tap for speed control.

Directechs:

Located on the rear of the instrument cluster in the 20 pin brown plug. Do not start the car with the cluster unplugged. Can also find the wire at the ECM.

new to the board, just bought an 02 with a 6 spd. going to be hooking up an f-90bt nav unit tomorrow, and i just saw in this post the pink/blue wire behind the cluster is the speed wire. just curious, the wiring diagram for the instrument cluster labels this wire as "vsp" is that vehicle speed? i'm used to seeing "vss." I just want to make sure I connect to the right wire.

Also saw in another post that the gps antenna works good hidden in the clock housing. Sounds perfect and will go there, thanks board!

Same wire. VSP might stand for 'vehicle speed pulse' or something like that. Whatever it is, you're fine

There is a wire running in the "extra" harness onto the back of the BOSE radio that doesnt carry power or audio - its the one with the steering wheel control connections (at least there was on my 03), unfortunately you need to cut this wire, as they dont make a wiring harness adapter(that i know of) for this connector...IIRC its red with a stripe, but I would have to double check (or you can check FSM)

^^ And what is the purpose of this wire?

Are you talking about the wire needed to be cut and grounded in the 02-03 Maximas? It requires a ground for the trip computer to work. Brown/yellow.

Purpose is for VSS. I used it and connected it to my nav. I know it works because in the "connection status" screen of my AVIC-X920BT, it shows the counter increasigng when i am speeding up, and decreasing when slowing down. It also tells me my speed. I will have to look for sure on the color, but I know thats what the wire is for. I think the factory bose system uses speed-sensitive sound controls (to turn up volume as you go faster to compensate for road noise - in fact, im fairly certain of this), hence the reason for the wire being there

You're correct, it's used for adaptive volume control. This does not exist in the 00-01 Maximas, hence the reason some individuals use the pink/blue behind the cluster.
