Amplifier Cooling...

I've ran with the kicker ZX650.4 for two years, every time it gets hot it cuts off after a short time, but in the winter it's fine & at night...

I searched and seen a post of using a computer fan...

As anyone ever installed fans on the amp cover? I was thinking about installing two to blow air in and out put i would install them on the amp itself...

You could do that or turn the gain down slightly. That might just take care of your problem.

My buddy installed two fans, push/pull effect. But he built an amp rack to do it. I think he had 4 amps at the time and probably used 4-6 fans. I don't remember. But I do know he didn't touch the amp itself.

I moved my amp to right in the center of my trunk, where I could open up the trunk pass through and let it "breathe" a little bit. helped cool it.

It's done. Instead of the push and pull, i just did the pull (due to the size of the fan) Worked perfectly out here when it is muggy. The amp didn't catch any heat at all. I was suprise to bump around for one half hour and the amp still felt cool. No real tricks to doing this...

figure out how to open front cover of amp
find the best spot to cut a hole (size of your fan)
screw it on...and I suggest putting a relay on there

and your finished.

How did you wire it? To a switch or just when the system is on?

System turn on. I'm going to hook it up to a switch because it does get cool out here and it's not needed all year round
