Radar Mounting

Looking for IDEAS to mount my Radar detector. I don't want it to be very noticable from out side the car.

THANKS

Mount the detecter out in the grill and the display where ever you want in the car. I think tweeter now sells kit's that alow you to do that easy.

form factor?

What kind of detector are we talking about here? If it's like most one-piece units, your best bet is probably to put it up high on the winshield near the rear view mirror. Either use a visor clip if available, or mount it with the suction cups in the same area. The only downside to this is that you have to reach up to turn it off if you ever get pulled over. That and the potential for a dangling cord. Personally, I've decided that a one-piece detector can't be mounted ideally if you want to maintain a low profile. It has to be able to see out of the car. That's why I'm looking into a remote unit. That or a V1 w/remote display, but I can get a BEL remote for less $$. I've never heard of retrofit kits to remote-mount a regular detector, but if they exist I think that would be the next best thing. With that, I think it really depends on whether or not the retrofit degrades quality.

It is a cobra 9200(one piece unit). I was thinking about taking it apart and mounting the unit in grill area and running the cables for the display through the engine compartment and mounting just the switch and display in the car. Has any one done this will I lose effectiveness of the unit?

If you look above you can see that I suggested it. Yes it makes it more affective. There is also one out now that you don't have to disasemble you just mount the senser out front and the display inside.
