Installing Clarion cx501
Installing Clarion cx501
I have a 4th gen max 1997 with the stock bose system. I decided to upgrade and install the clarion cx501 double din. I ordered the metra 70-7551 and the antenna adapter. Is this all I need to hook it up with the bose system ?
I know a friend of mine has exactly same kind he said it not quite user friendly the blue tooth built in mic would be hard to hear people you talking unless you try to talk really loud... I've had that experience from his HU. Also the Bluetooth music would skips a lot but maybe that just him.
Other than that it has alot great features USB port, AUX in, and have good ability to control the sound levels, EQ, Treble, Bass, bass booster, and much more.
Did you hook this up with amp to subs or speakers?

Yeah, the mic you have to turn the gain all the way up. I haven't had any issues with the Bluetooth, I play music off my phone and it works great. The controls take some getting use to, theres plenty of tutorials from clarion on youtube that shows you how to work everything. Once you get it setup, you basically just use the source button for everything.
I hooked it up to the stock bose amps & speakers, it doesn't seem to get quite as loud as the stock bose HU but awfully close. Its plenty loud for me. I mainly purchased for the hands free Bluetooth, the sound is nice and clear.
The best part I got it off craigslist from a guy, its less than a month old and I got it for 125.00 bucks

What is the wattage on that head unit most new HU now comes with 50x peak power or 75x peak power. My Amp isn't running to speakers only subs at this moment, planning on buying another amp for aftermarket speakers. But at this moment I'm running stock speakers and with the HU it extremely loud even at 15 volume out of 50... it because aftermarket head-unit gives more peak power than stock.
I don't see why yours isn't giving loud as your stock was there has got to be a loose connection somewhere. A loose connection can give you a bad signal/weak strengths.
Peak output is 50watts and rms is 21 watts. It seems pretty close to the factory bose. Its plenty loud for me, the dial only goes up to like 33 which kinda surprised me on this unit but it sounds good and for the price I couldn't beat it.
