What's involved when replacing speakers on '99 Maxima (non-Bose)

I recently got a 1999 Nissan Maxima. The door speakers are stock, I believe, and they're both semi-blown. The rear speakers are aftermarket Pioneers, but only one of them works. There's also an aftermarket Alpine stereo installed.
I want to replace all of the speakers. I'm confident when it comes to accessing the speakers (removing the door panel, etc.), but I'm not confident when it comes to hooking up the speakers.
I've searched high and low and have gotten all different answers to what's actually involved: some say "just plug the new speakers in," others say "get your soldering equipment ready," and others say "get some spade connectors..."
I want to install my new speakers as cost-effectively as possible. I don't really want to shell out extra money for the special Nissan speaker adapters. I just want to know the most straightforward way to hook them up.
I'm 90% sure all of my speakers are 6.5", and as long as I got that size, they'd fit right in. Although, I had someone tell me that they're actually 6.75" and I'd need a special bracket to fit the 6.5" speakers in. Ugh. I just don't know who to trust. I figured if there's anywhere on the Internet to get sound advice on Maximas, it's here.
P.S. I plan on buying the speakers from Best Buy. Amazon's having a great deal on a certain pair, and Best Buy will match Amazon's price.
Thanks for reading.

If aftermarket speakers are already installed, just install the new ones in the exact same way...reuse the connections and the brackets. You shouldn't have to spend on anything more than the speakers themselves.
