Dealer Diagnosis Fees

What's been your experience with the cost to diagnose problems with your car?

Went into Pine Belt Nissan on Rt. 36 in NJ this morning. Wanted $90 to diagnose my suspension problem. Of course that charge would go away if I serviced the car with them. I got the hell out of there. That fee is bull**** to begin with. Service manager gave me the excuse 'it insures my mechanics time and that he gets paid' I responded "So now that I'm walking out, he won't get paid? Later." Threw the work order pen in his face. Some other guy was arguing over it on his waranteed car at the same time.

Several years ago I went to Sansone Nissan on Rt 66. in NJ several times for the same problem (they couldn't reproduce the problem the first few times). No charge (till the $500 service).

are you talking about actual diagnosis by the mechanic or just pulling up codes from OBD II?

i had an oil change due in nissan and they threw some alignment/balancing/coolant flush BS they were charging me 115 for a coolant flush, and 110+ for alignment. took the car to another mechanic he said everything was fine except for the balancing which ran me 50$ at goodyear. yea i know this has nothing to do with diagnoses but wut da hell might as well throw it in
