That is the first thing that caught my eye when reading the post. I know for a fact lit cigarettes cannot ignite gasoline. I spent one summer pumping gas at a rest stop on the NJ Turnpike and 95% of the career gas pumpers their had a lit cig in their mouth while pumping gas. Customers would look at them like they had two heads. One even called a manager over and sure enough, what does the manager have in his mouth when he walks over? Yup, a lit cigarette...

It seems that the management could have hired some local university students to do this work in part time shifts, why these two idiots?

I would say that a fire extinguisher may have been able to keep this under control before it got out of control, but I don't think idiots like these two would think about that.
They tried to use the extinguisher........of course after the flames were 30ft high.....freakin jerks. Anyway... all is well.... we are still operating out of Kings Jaguar.....the building has been condemned so only God knows what will happen with the new location.... still have not seen anything news wise but the area paper comes out tomorrow so we'll see.....oh yeah, needless to say, those jerks are no longer with the company.....I wonder why? LOL.....I can joke about it now because everyones okay and when i think about these guys its kinda funny. Someone told me they went to BAYRIDGE NISSAN!......OH BOY!!!!

That's still dangerous because gasoline vapors are very flammable. If it's not windy the vapors will hang around under the roof more. Is there no law against smoking at NJ gas stations???

Of course there is a law prohibiting it, but they didn't care I guess. I thought gasoline whether in vapor or liquid form needs some kind of spark to ignite? But what do I know. Also keep in mind this was about 7 years ago during my college days.

A spark or a flame! A burning cigarette is plenty hot enough, I think.

A burning cig is neither spark or flame.

It's certainly hotter than a spark.

No you cant light gasoline on the ground with a cig. However with a hose and using siphoning techniques you can start a fire very easily. I use to help a cousin race motorcross bikes and out here in Nevada its a little ways away from where he practiced and a gas station. So we had to rig different ways to get him the gas and on more than one occasion we have had little fires....

I have actually helped one of my buddies take out a gas tank out of an 88 interceptor mercury in the lot of a gas station. This guy is a freakin genius when it comes to cars and electronics but his brain only works with his cigarrette in his mouth. His way of splicing wires to install my remote alarm was to use his cigarrette lighter (try it, the best splice you'll ever do). Needless to say, I was scared ****less that night. We both came out alive and with a new fuel pump in the tank. I would have been the two guys in the above scenario running two years ago if something had happened that night... nothing scares me now!!

In NJ its illegal to pump your own gas. I found this out driving from CT to Ohio and getting out and the foreigners run out and say "NO PUMP GAS I DO FOR YOUR!!!" And then began to scream my head off in a foreign language.

But anyway, this is the funniest post by far on the .org. Too bad I didn't hear anything about it..I was supposed to go there in early Jan to take a look at an 06 Armada. Good thing I didn't

Yeah I know about that law; it's really stupid. Inefficient and totally pointless use of human labor. And then you're supposed to tip them I'm sure, but damned if I'll ever tip them when I'm driving through NJ.
