New 03 - Removing Light Swirl Marks

I've been reading a lot of the detailing conversations here and at Autopia.org, and there are a dizzying number of products and methods that people use. This week I traded my Grey Lustre 02 for a Merlot 03 in much better condition, but there are very light swirl marks on the hood. They basically look like the hood was dried with a rough towel, but it's only visible in certain light.

I'm looking for the simplest and safest way to reduce or remove those swirl marks. Does this seem like a simple and effective method?

I don't have a machine right now. Otherwise, is there a better method I should consider that is still relatively simple? I'm just trying to do a good job, without having to buy an armful of different expensive products.

Thanks!

What polishes are you going to use with it?

I thought I'd use exactly what he uses in that writeup. I know everyone has their own preference on these types of things, but if I follow this writeup and it really works it will save me time in buying and testing different products. I want to remove these fine scratches, but I don't want to dull the clearcoat by using the wrong thing.

Thanks

The products in the article will work fine but do you have a polishing machine? Doing this by hand would be A LOT of work. A good polishing machine is the Porter Cable 7224 or 7336. You can get one for about $110 - it's well worth the money as you can keep your paint finish looking like new.

If you are using an electric buffer, try 3M Perfect-It finishing compound. I just did my black '94 Yukon and it turned out great! If it works on black, it will work on any color.
