Maxima of the Month -- Logo Proposal

The 2 different color themes is why I like the gradient background a little better. It feels softer, and better integrated. Not as much *pop*, but that's the point, I suppose.

My pngs have a dark glow in case of a lighter background.
Cut me some credit- i didn't reach Art Director in under 5 years (in this economy) for no reason.

There are a number of debatable elements about this image, pro and con. On the good side, it has a fantastic license-plate look to it, with a fine metallic detail. The image on the light-colored style looks really good with the top/left glow and bottom/right shadow.
On the down side, the vertical dimensions make the image dominate the space, with an almost too-sharp contrast between this image and the surrounding colors. The bottom shadow is a little too severe, and the image on the dark-colored style looses it's glow and shadow, making it flat and unfinished.
Everything is IMO. And it's not my intention to put you off. On the contrary, I'm very happy to have someone with your skills looking at this project, and I'm working with you here to collaborate on the effort through shared ideas.

Details... this is making me look at the MOTM image I first put up, and recognizing a detail that's always bugged me. I started with the self-imposed requirement of a fixed resolution, but if I can change the height, all the better. So this image is a couple of pixels higher, with a solid black bottom/right edge, so that it looks more like a badge, or "emblem", than otherwise.
DanNY, unless someone makes a constructive suggestion on how to tweak this particular design, the is likely my final proposal.
And here it is in the two display styles:

95VQ30, it's not a personal thing. There's no credit awarded by virtue of your job title, because creative projects stand on their own merits, and not the qualifications of the artist. You know that, but there it is anyway. Just saying.

Buttons, banners and the like are meant to contrast- not blend in.
I can provide arguments, color theories, eye responses, graphical psych. and case studies to support my strategy but i say we just put it to a vote.
I am all for the team collaborative, as long as it yields true results to the intended party. In other words my concern is for the client's best interest and their business, not my ego or anyone's feelings. I really like everyone here but I we are on 2 different levels of experience. I may not know the Maxima as well as most of you but I do know my advertising. Again my words & actions are here to support the org. I really do like the community here and I want to see the look reflect the great people on here.

Says you. Everything has a context.
Case studies? WTF? And we probably shouldn't have a vote, because then you're allowing for opinions from people who you've already judged as unqualified. And after that, it's just anarchy. Cats and dogs sleeping together...
Seriously? And "true results" are qualified by... who, again?
Holy crap. Way to go, Killer.

Is it really going be one of these threads now...
1.) Says a design community- this is very much true in a forum design.
2.) I said I could provide the evidence but don't want to- so why not have a vote(this is with me knowing that you're very popular on here- hence the post above)... not too much to b1tch about there
3) True results are qualified by a professional. Opinions on the other hand are subjective.
Now I realize people will say that looks and designs are subjective. In fine arts sure- in graphic arts- not so much.
I get very passionate about design/ advertising because it is not only my job but a passion for me. I can see where this thread is heading but I do have the option to retort to anything.
Ninja edit- I have been a forum member for over 5 years and it has looked damn near the same in that whole time while I see other forums improve and adapt their looks/layout. Again I am looking to make this forum reflect it's users and it's subject- the MAXIMA.

Dude, just stop it. You're sucking all the joy out of this thing.
That's true. The Org is pretty static. So... small changes where we can.
Really? Awesome! But if that's true, I wonder why that is?
You know, bravado can take you places, but humility will make it worthwhile. And nobody, nobody, likes a self-declared expert. Just too much baggage to bother with.

so this is going on the back burner until the "who's got the bigger ****" contest ends.
if you don't play nice in the sand box then the playground is closed...for now.
