Change filter w/o changing oil?

Changing the filter in between oil changes sounds like a great idea. I have wanted to try this, but figured a lot of oil would come out when unscrewing/replacing the oil filter.

How much oil do you lose when doing this?

Basically what's in the filter, plus a little bit. Shouldn't be more than about 1/2 quart or so. That's about all I lose.

The reason why you won't lose much is because the filter sits above the oil pan. Since the majority if the oil is in the pan when the engine isn't running, you only lose what's in the filter.
