Change to synthetic?

I have a 96 max I got it used and it is time for an oil change I am wondering if I should go synthetic?

If I want the car to last as long as I can, will this be a good step to take?

Since you have an older car, you might want to consider this stuff http://www.auto-rx.com. The other option is to use Amsoil Engine Flush before changing over to synthetic oil. Mobil 1 5w-30 is your best off the shelf choice.

I don't know if you have a 5 speed or auto, but using a synthetic product (gear oil/atf) would also help you extend the life of the entire powertrain.

good for you. I have changed to synthetic on every piece of machinery I use. Generator, pressure washers, mowers, tractors and go-carts. All of them are running better and the internal parts are MUCH cleaner on the few times I have had to tear anything down.

Does this also apply to a transmission? I switched to Redline MT-90 a while ago, but am now considering going back to the OEM stuff since the shifts are notchy. Do you think this will be a problem?

No. It would be no problem for motor oil either.
