My '99 needs an oil change. What do you recommend for 82,250 mile car?

My 1999 Max SE has 82,250 miles and i need a new oil change.

A local shop charges $16 for an oil and filter change but they use cheap oil from Autozone and i don't know what type of filter they use.

I asked the manager and he said if i bring my own oil and filter, he'll charge me $10 for labor.

So I want to buy some GOOD products (oil and filter)
I know I need one filter...
How much of oil do I need?

What do you guys recommend with a car that has 80,000+ miles

Where can I purchase the "GOODS" that sells them for a low price? (on-line or a retail store?)

You can buy Castrol GTX or Mobil if you want to use regular oil. If you have money, go for the synthetic stuff like Mobil 1.

I use Nissan OEM filters and during the winter, I take my oil to my mechanic and he charges $5 for the labor

Use mobil 1 synthetic and change it every 5k. I also use an OEM.

If you bring it to a quick lube place they'll use the cheapest crap for oil and the cheapest crap for a filter they can use, so it's good that you won't be using their garbage

is it really bad for our engine if we go with what they use (cheap crap)? I am sure most auto consumers just go to a place that does oil change and leave their cars.
Any oil changing places in the East coast that uses "decent" oil and filter? i heard walmart does a good oil change.

Doing regular oil changes is the best approach. Consistency is more important than a brand or filter or BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Having said that, I personally would not go over 3k on an oil change if done at a oil change place, as who knows what will be put in it or on it.
