Synthetic vs Synthetic blend

i saw a thread on this but cannot search. What is the best for our beloved Maximas? I've always liked to use full synthetic but its pretty costly. Would synthetic blend do the trick as well? What is the main difference?

(im currently using Mobil 1 synthetic blend)

Also, i've been using the regular pennzoil motor oil (since my gf's uncle owns an auto garage and its been too cold to change it on my own). What are the main differences?

I beleive syn-blends are not that that great. One of the main benefits of synthetic is that it maintains it's viscosity when cold(stay's thin and runny) easier starts, oil to top of engine quicker. I worked at a lube shop years ago and a guy brought in his own castrol syn-blend that was in his trunk all night in the winter. It took about 15 minutes for us to empty 4qts into his car, thick like molasses! Stick with 100% syn, it's worth the extra few bucks IMO.

Yea I mean if you think about it you're only spending maybe $10 more every oil change. With my driving, I do oil changes about 3-5 times a year, so it's really not that much savings spread out over the course of a year.

Total waste of money. It won't provide significant extended drain intervals like some full synthetics do so what's the point.

I say stick with the Mobil1 full synthetic, although I personally use Amsoil full synthetic 5W-30.

If you want the benefits of a synthetic, spend the money and use a good one. If you don't, save your money and use a good dino oil. The blends are way to pricey for the small advantage they MAY have over a good oil like Chevron Supreme or Castrol GTX.

Absolute best would be Amsoil S2k, but unless you take full advantage of the extended drain intervals, it would probably be a waste of money.

The owner manual say not to use Synthetic Blend.
Quote form a 02 owner manual " Do not mix mineral based and syntheric type oils in the engine at the same time". Techinical speaking that is mixing both oil together.
