how long to have it in there. So I assume it's okay to keep it in there. As it is not a short term flush type. But I plan to short change my oil at about 200 miles to get it out of there anyway. Anyone know what the recommended duration is when it's in the crankcase?

ICY. Either say something constructive or

I poured 1/2 a can of it into my crankcase and ran it for 1000 miles before I changed the oil. Car didn't seem to mind. This was in cold weather, so I wasn't too worried about the oil thinning too much (had mobil 1 5w30 in the crankcase at the time).

The LT1 guys usually run it 500 miles before an oil change at a rate of 1.5 ounces per quart of oil.

I ran about 1/2 pint of this stuff in 4.5 quarts of oil for approximately 230 odd miles. This was on dino 5w30. Before I put it in, the oil was just starting to turn color. When I drained it, it was pretty dark. Now the oil was still fairly warm but it did seem a bit thinner. My engine was very clean to begin with and ran well also so I didn't really notice any particular difference. But just going by the color change, it might have done some good cleaning inside.
Again the bottle doesn't specify any change interval. Just says to add it. But IMHO, I would run it for about 150-200 miles maybe. That should be plenty of time to let this stuff do it's thing. I also wouldn't run the engine hard either. Or maybe run less. ie.. 1/4 pint per 4 qts of oil etc...

Interesting...I was reading up on SeaFoam a bit and it seems to be multi-purpose. So did you only use it in your crankcase? Sounds like something I can use on my 85K mile engine.

Directions on the can say. Crankcase, fuel tank and maybe tranny but you have to confirm 100% on that before using.

I just checked out the web site (http://www.seafoamsales.com/products.htm)and for the tranny they use a different bottle of stuff called "transtune." From the web site they state that you can use the SeaFoam for crankcase, fuel tank, intake, and carbeurator.

Looks to be pretty good stuff. I think I'm going to try it on my next oil change.

This stuff is pretty cool. I used it through the PCV valve, in the crankcase, and in my gas tank. So far it has made my engine more quiet and smoothed it out a little. Haven't really seen any performance enhancement though. But I don't think that is main purpose of it.

I read that if you use it in the crankcase to drain it at half the normal oil change interval. Meaning if you drain every 3,000 then you would drain at 1,500 if you use seafoam. I'm going to stick to that to give it more time to work.

I'm going to look for SeaFoam today. I'm due for an oil change in about 300 miles so I'll use this stuff now and drive 150-200 miles and change my oil on Friday

The only diffence between the 2-3 products they produce is the ammount of each ingredient they put in. Like the can might be 2 parts A and 1 part B, while the spray would be 1 part A and 2 parts B. I read that on Seafoams site.

Personally when I first got my car I just ran it in the oil for about 3 months (i think about 400 miles, maybe it was 1000? I dont remember ). I've had a quart of MMO on the car for about 1000 miles now and I'm due for an oil change (been ~3 months).

Find a distributor in B.C., and have them ship a few bottles to you. Better yet, find other people from Ontario who want in, order a case, and then redistribute.

I poured about a 1/3 of the can when I was doing my oil change. And let it do it's thing for the full 3K miles. I believe it actually fixed my very small oil burn I had.

I used it but changed the oil the very next day. It does have some chemicals etc in it. basically dissolves sludge etc. driving around with it loose in the crankcase wouldn't be a very good idea. A alternative to Seafoam I found though while browsing at autozone was B12 Chemtool, by berryman I believe. Same stuff pretty much as seafoam, I glanced at the ingredients on the back Toluene, acetone, etc.

I share your concern but consider:
1) Can doesn't specificly say how long to keep in there(hence my first post). This is not the case for engine flush products that have strict instructions on how long you have it in there.
2) Since the sludge removal is not apparently instantenous, I'll just "guess" that you would have to leave it there for xxx miles in order for it to do any good. What the mileage number is the question at hand. But considering you took all the Seafoam out the next day, I really doubt you left it in there long enough for it do actually do anything (good or bad). That is unless you took a 100 mile drive that day.

heres what sea foam sales rep wrote me

It is safe to put 1/2 can of Sea Foam into the oil and leave it in till the
next oil change. Half of the Sea Foam will evaporate and the oil will come
back to the original viscosity.

That being said if this is the first time you are using Sea Foam in the oil,
we would suggest putting 1/2 a can into the oil prior to an oil change, no
need to warm up your engine. Drive for 15 minutes to 1/2 and hour, then
change the oil and put the second 1/2 can into the oil and leave it till the
next oil change. Any further questions let us know. Thanks for using Sea
Foam.
