Synthetic tranny fluid, any difference?

I was in store and picked up synthetic castrol tranny fluid, because thats all they had left of the Dextron III. Iam wondering is there are any benefits to this fluid.

I switched to Redline synthetic gear oil about 6 months ago in my 6 speed. I personally have noticed no big difference in shifting my 6 speed. I am sure the oil holds up better and protects longer, but as far as performance wise I don't see any difference. Could be just me. I would do it more for peace of mind than anything else.

You may need to add some friction modifiers like Lubegard Black to meet NissanMaticD spec.

Mobil1 ATF "meets and exceeds" DexronIII only but does not come close to NissanMaticD.

Check the level of the fluid when HOT. I overfilled by about 1/2 a quart and had slippage. Removed the 1/2 quart and it was back to normal.

Yup, first check the fluid level and make sure it is not under/over filled!!!

or you can use AMSOIL ATF, AMSOIL is also contains Friction modifers cause the car listed on Amsoil ATF is the same on Lubegard site.

I have flushed my tranny with Chevron DexronIII (GroupII base stock which is better than any OTC DexronIII) i.e a full 10Q change and put in 10oz of Lubegard Black. I must say Lubegard is a high quality product -- my gears shift like butter. What is confusing in the user's manual is that NissanMaticD replacement is DexronIII but it is true to an extent becoz Nissan ATF are HFM fluids, I spoke to my Nissan buddy and that is what he told me.

FYI, I have run the car with no HFMs for over 6 months (my shifts with OEM ATF were smooth but after the flush with just DexronIII dino the down shifts were jerky, my throttle body was clean toooooo....) and I know how the shifts were with/without Lubegard, and since this product is recommended by Saab and Honda, it definetly should stand up for what is claims on the website.

I know it works and don't have to wonder why OEM fluid was better than regular DexronIII fluid, it had to do with HFMs (that is why it is quoted as $3.99/Q). It all a marketing gimmick by Nissan and the stealerships -- every one knows how his/her car shifts and once they realize the vehicle was not behaving like it was before the ATF change, they would panic and redo the change and revert back to NissanMaticD.....
